The last couple of decades have completely transformed our home entertainment experience. We’ve gone from televisions shaped like cubes to razor-thin glass panels that deliver picture quality and immersion previously thought impossible. Further, our TVs have become multi-functional hubs that enrich our lives on a daily basis.
On every front, LG Electronics has been a powerful driver of this evolution. Whether we’re talking about ensuring the most gripping film scenes are delivered in the way the makers intended, creating the technology needed to keep up with the frenetic pace of a sporting event’s final desperate moments, or enabling a TV to become a piece of mounted art (answering the prayers of interior decorators everywhere), LG has been there.
So how did we arrive at the superb pieces of OLED engineering we have today? Well, having already banked several years of momentum-building flat-screen innovation, 2013 saw LG suddenly become the brand to beat with a truly industry-shaking product.

How ‘Perfect Black’ Changed Everything
That release was the world’s first commercially available 55-inch Full HD OLED TV. To the naked eye, its ultra-flat, compact, and stunningly sleek profile was certainly striking, but beneath this streamlined surface, a revolution was underway. This OLED technology meant that every pixel was its own light source, meaning that when a scene called for black, each one could switch itself off completely. This introduced the world to the concept of ‘Perfect Black’, an offering no backlit LCD/LED screen could hope to match, and the TV world would never be the same.
For viewers, the difference was obvious. Colours looked more vibrant, contrast was more, well, contrasted, and shadows boasted depth and detail that brought scenes to life in the home like never before. The release reshaped our expectations for what a TV (and an evening in front of it on the couch) could be.

A Series of Firsts
What followed was a rapid televisual evolution that remains hard to fathom. Each leap would recalibrate our expectations in terms of what a TV’s aesthetics and performance should be, while challenging the way we integrate them into our homes.
Few televisions demonstrate the sheer pace of this evolution quite like the 2020 arrival of the landmark LG SIGNATURE OLED R. A mere seven years after the first commercially available 55-inch Full HD OLED TV entered homes across Australia, LG unveiled this revolutionary panel, which could fully retract into its base. Pressing the off button would cause it to vanish from the room entirely, which remains an enticing trick for anyone who’s ever wished their living space weren’t dominated by a large black rectangle (a theme we’ll return to shortly).
Just three years later, LG could be found innovating in an entirely different way with the introduction of the LG SIGNATURE OLED M True Wireless OLED TV. Its Zero Connect Box meant you no longer needed to design your room layout around a tangle of wiring. Instead, it would send 4K video and audio to your screen with near-zero perceptible latency from several metres away. ¹ It was a true game-changer.
Then, 2024 saw LG release the LG SIGNATURE OLED T, the world’s first True Wireless transparent OLED TV. Boasting a retractable black shade, it could move between the appearance of a standard OLED TV and a beautifully transparent display with a three-dimensionality that made it look like it came straight from some distant future.
Each of these panels wasn’t a refinement of what came before, but rather a new, imagination-firing challenge to the idea of what a television should or could be.

Innovations Culminated
All of this brings us to 2026 and arguably LG’s most elegantly innovative TV offering yet: the LG OLED evo W6 Wallpaper TV. Measuring just 9.9 mm thin, it’s the flagship embodiment of all the wisdom LG has accumulated since 2013. Self-lit pixels? Check. Wireless freedom? Check. A super-slim, elegantly wall-hugging form? Check.
Like the OLED R and OLED T, the OLED evo W6 is designed to ensure your TV isn’t reduced to a black rectangle when it’s not in use. Once the credits roll on the latest blockbuster, the grand final reaches the final whistle, or you’ve binged every episode, LG Gallery+ functionality turns your TV into a beautiful canvas with art pieces, immersive scenery, and ambient videos available to ensure your space always feels fresh.
Further, the W6 is made to be wall-mounted, coming with a special slim bracket that mounts the TV flush to the wall with virtually no gap.²

The Numbers Don’t Lie
Innovation like this doesn’t go unnoticed. In 2025, LG was named the world’s number one OLED TV brand for the 13th consecutive year.³ Closer to home, LG’s Business Intelligence tells us one out of every two OLED TVs sold in Australia is an LG TV.
TV enthusiasts are noticing, too. LG’s TV offering was ranked at the top of the list in CNET’s 2026 People’s Picks survey, taking the lead position for overall customer satisfaction, picture quality, the OLED TV category, and fast-moving content performance.⁴ And CHOICE, Australia’s leading consumer advocacy group, once again, gave LG the Best Brand TV award. That’s 10 years in a row.
Helping to drive that confidence is LG’s five-year panel parts warranty on every 2026 LG OLED evo TV (the W6, G6 and C6).⁵ It’s a quiet but telling signal of how much LG believes in what it has built.

Curated for You
While the potency of LG’s OLED offering is plain to see, a great screen is only part of the story. Looking ahead, the future of entertainment is as much about the ecosystem as the hardware itself.
Fortunately, LG webOS provides an intelligent, personalised entertainment platform that learns your favourite content and brings it to the fore. It makes finding something to watch feel less like a chore and more like an intuitive experience. LG webOS also includes over 150 free LG Channels that only require an internet connection to access.⁶
Of course, technology is at its best when it enriches our lives. Whether you’re a movie buff witnessing your favourite scene unfold with a clarity you’ve never seen before, a gamer basking in the glory of a hard-won victory assisted by cutting-edge technology, or anyone in between, LG is ready to deliver on the same principle every time: a TV for every you.

Inventing the Future
For LG, the throughline has remained the same since 2013 and even further back: take a bold idea, make it real, and then make it better. From a pioneering 55-inch OLED panel to a 9.9-mm, wallpaper-thin masterpiece, LG hasn’t just kept up with the evolution of television. It has led the charge.
