When every man and his dog has a new Rolex, it was somewhat surprising to see Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce’s wrist bare for his engagement. However, the Super Bowl-winner, whose net worth is estimated to be upwards of $70 million, need not show off next to his billionaire fiancée, Taylor Swift, the wealthiest female musician of all time.
To some, wedding watches have become as important as the engagement ring, in an era when the lab-grown diamond industry has made every man question his options when buying a ring. That wasn’t the case here with Kelce, who puckered up for a 10ct Mine Cut diamond, set in yellow gold with an engraved band for Swift, worth about USD$1 million. However, it was clearly on Swift’s mind as she reached into the jewellery box to pull out a diamond-set Cartier Santos Demoiselle.
Named after Alberto Santos-Dumont’s lightweight aircraft, “La Demoiselle,” the watch is a discontinued model from Cartier and is valued at around AUD$30,000 on the secondary market today. That said, we wouldn’t be surprised if prices for this watch went up after this announcement.

Unlike the now sold-out Polo Ralph Lauren Silk-Blend Midi Dress that Taylor was wearing in the engagement photos, the Cartier Santos Demoiselle was discontinued sometime around late 2014, as mentioned by a user on PurseForum, who said that their AD had advised the Demoiselle had been discontinued, with limited stock remaining in boutiques.
Today, the closest watch you’ll find from new in Cartier boutiques is the Panthère de Cartier (AUD$48,500), small, in yellow gold with diamonds.
It comes in a similar size of 22 mm x 30 mm, with a modern quartz movement, blued-steel sword-shaped hands, a case and bracelet in yellow gold 750/1000, and is set with brilliant-cut diamonds with an additional diamond on the crown.
Of course, this makes the new watch more expensive than a Cartier Santos Demoiselle on the secondary market, but for how long? With the Tay-Tay hype in full effect following her engagement, it will be interesting to see how high prices rise for a Taylor Swift Cartier wedding watch dupe.
