Zenith Defy Classic Range Rover Special Edition

A fact that many of you are probably well aware of: I absolutely adore Zenith. The El Primero is one of the coolest pieces I’ve ever laid my wanting eyes on, and the new Defy collection is just out of this world. The latest piece from the hallows of this iconic watchmaker is the Defy Classic Range Rover Special Edition, a celebration of the long-standing partnership with Land Rover. The Defy Classic Range Rover Special Edition has a very interesting aesthetic that pays homage to the Range Rover’s very recognisable design. The modern style of the watch and architectural design of the dial again is a nod to the Range Rover’s evolution. This is a wonderful timepiece that is exemplary in both design and in execution.

Cartier Privé Tonneau XL Skeleton Dual Time

Cartier has given us a sneak preview into their up and coming SIHH 2019 reveals, this time unveiling the Privé Tonneau XL Skeleton Dual Time. This is an odd piece, but it really is quite beautiful. The 52.4mm by 29.8mm tonneau-shaped case comes in either platinum or rose-gold and features a fully skeletonised dial. The dual-time indicator is, quite obviously, indicated by the two separate dials, each with their own individual crown. The Privé Tonneau XL Skeleton Dual Time is more like two watches in one, as opposed to a typical dual-time piece. Prices are high, as you can probably imagine. Expect to pay $68,500USD for the rose-gold piece, while the platinum variant will set you back a cool $78,5000USD. Each model run is limited to only 100-pieces, and it will be made available sometime next year.

Alpina Shadow Line

Alpina has released a brand-new collection of smoked dials to their popular Startimer Pilot and Alpiner collections. All in all, there are 6 different models to choose from, with each piece’s dial featuring that beautiful dark smoked dial. There are two Startimer Pilot big-date quartz chronographs, three Startimer Pilot Automatic pieces, as well as an Automatic Alpiner 4 model. All are very cool, but I love the Alpina Automatic 4, and for a few reasons. One, it’s an automatic piece. Two, the black PVD-coated 44mm stainless-steel case pairs wonderfully well with the smoked sun-ray finished dial. And three, I just think it looks the best out of the lot! With the Shadow Line, you really are spoiled for choice, and I can guarantee you that, with considerations to pricing, you’re going to be hard-pressed to find a more charismatic watch.

Ulysse Nardin Diver 42mm

Tool-watch lovers, rejoice, for Ulysse Nardin have heard your cries and answered them. Here is the Ulysse Nardin Diver 42mm, a traditional three-hander divers watch with a date window located snugly at 6 o’clock. This is a very well put-together piece. There’s a lot of thought put into Ulysse Nardin’s functional watches, and the Diver 42mm is no exception. It comes on a variety of strap options, as well as a few dial/bezel colour choices. This is a diver’s watch, so it’s always interesting to know just how far you can push it. The Diver 42mm has been rated to a depth of 300m, so you know that it’s going to be just as comfortable sitting on your wrist in your air-conditioned office as it will be while you’re surfing the waves on a hot Summer’s day. Great details, great proportions and a wonderful all-rounder.

Panerai Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition PAM00982

Another pre-SIHH release, this time from Panerai in the form of the Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition PAM00982. I love heavy-duty diver’s watches, and the Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition PAM00982 is exactly that. Produced for extreme freedivers like Néry, the Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition PAM00982 is more watch than you’ll ever need on your next deep-diving adventure. Solid and rigid, the 47mm wide titanium case features a titanium bezel with blue ceramic insert and an automatic P.9100 calibre. The automatic movement features the passing hours, minute and small seconds, a flyback chronograph and a whopping 72-hours’ worth of power reserve with thanks to its twin-barrels. Over the last year or so, Panerai has definitely grown on me as a brand well worth my consideration, and the Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition PAM00982 is another great example of why Panerai deserves yours, too.
