As the automotive world increasingly pivots towards SUVs and electric vehicles, the idea of a V12 convertible might seem a touch too indulgent for some, but there are rarefied corners of the globe where such cars are in demand.
Often the more laidback versions of their coupe siblings, convertibles typically replace edgy driving dynamics with a more relaxed demeanour. Traditionally speaking, the coupe is sharper as the convertible would be less structurally rigid. However, while that was the case years ago, these days, the convertible version is nearly as stiff and just as practical as the coupe, but with the dual personality of dropping the top down when the weather agrees.
As the Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider proved, the gentle burble of a V12 is a handy companion, and this is something that the new Aston Martin Vanquish Volante does very well. The convertible version of the sharper new Vanquish, the Volante (convertible) version is quite simply the world’s fastest and most powerful front-engine convertible.

A cursory glance through the numbers does suggest enough evidence to back that claim since the twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 engine with 835PS and 1000Nm of torque offers a terrifying amount of power while being more than enough for some serious ‘wind in your hair’ action.
The Vanquish Volante is also extremely quick with a 0-100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds (vs 3.3 of the coupe) while the top-speed is a hairstyle altering 214mph. However, more than the ridiculous performance on offer, the concept of a V12 convertible is indeed the main highlight here since the DB12 Volante is V8 only while the Ferrari 12 Cilindri Spider is the only true competition around.
Arguably, the Vanquish Volante looks even more stunning with purposeful lines being juxtaposed with the slightly softer proportions of the voluptuous rear haunches. Roof down, the Vanquish Volante looks beautiful and can claim to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made.
Compared to the DB12 Volante, the muscular lines are more visually arresting and the convertible formula suits its GT proportions even more.

Like all Volante cars, there is the K-fold roof mechanism on offer with minimal weight increase and some structural reinforcement. Plus, there are combinations in terms of the fabric roof colour while the interior is as sumptuously trimmed as the coupe along with the brand’s new touchscreen interface.
The Volante series of models have always been an integral part of Aston Martin’s line-up since this moniker goes back to 1965 with the Short Chassis Volante being the first model to carry this name.
With only 1,000 cars being made every year (including the coupe), the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante will probably be more exclusive and arguably, the more desirable choice here.

“For 60 years, Aston Martin Volantes has defined the art of elegant, sporting, open-top motoring,” said Aston Martin Chief Executive Officer, Adrian Hallmark. “With its stunning looks and outstanding V12 engine producing more power than any other front-engine production car on sale, Vanquish Volante has taken this philosophy to an entirely new level. At Aston Martin we are proud to be doing such justice to our heritage while, as the unprecedented performance of the Vanquish Volante shows, keeping our eyes firmly focused on the future.”
Pricing and availability for Australia is yet to be confirmed, but the 2025 Aston Martin Vanquish is priced from AUD$737,000 plus on-road costs and options and we’d expect that number to increase by around $100,000 for the Volante.
