  • Jeep revealed the Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept featuring high-output V8 power.
  • Bespoke independent front suspension replaces the traditional solid front axle.
  • Reversible rear seats rotate 180 degrees or unclip for cargo space.
  • The high-speed desert racer is a concept and not for sale.
  • Off-road champion Casey Currie co-developed the competition-grade desert chassis hardware.

Jeep and its SRT Performance division have revealed the Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept, which drops a V8 engine and a bespoke independent front suspension into an integrated ute chassis. Co-developed with off-road racing champion Casey Currie, the vehicle does the unthinkable for Jeep as it ditches a solid front axle for high-travel independent suspension and pairs it with a trophy-truck-inspired multi-link rear axle. Built purely as a high-speed desert fun machine, it’s a one-off design concept and isn’t available for public sale. One day, we hope to see one of these epic Jeep concepts actually hit production.

The build reinterprets the packaging of the 1980s CJ-8 pickup by adapting the front suspension geometry first run on the Jeep Gladiator Striker Concept, which racer Casey Currie drove to a class victory at the NORRA 500. Tim Kuniskis, head of the American Brands, SRT Performance, and Direct Connection divisions at Stellantis North America, explained the development goals. “The original Scrambler became an icon because it broke the rules. It looked different, worked differently and represented a certain kind of freedom that resonated with enthusiasts then and still does today,” said Kuniskis. “We asked ourselves a more provocative question: what happens when SRT stops treating the trail as the limit and builds the ultimate open-air desert weapon? The Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept is our answer.”

The Scrambler SRT Concept serves strictly as an experimental design study in the United States. However, the departure from a traditional solid front axle offers an early look at dynamic chassis hardware that could filter down to Jeep Wrangler models over the next few years as it looks to take on the Ford Bronco.

High-Travel Independent Front Suspension

The Jeep Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept starts with a standard Wrangler frame. Engineers reshaped the bodywork from the A-pillar rearward, and you can notice it in the exterior design with longer doors, custom rear body panels, an integrated utility bed, and a redesigned tailgate.

Look up the front, and you’ll find a modern sharknose grille design that draws inspiration from classic Jeep pickups and sits ahead of a bespoke high-travel independent front suspension setup. Developed alongside off-road champion Casey Currie, this independent front architecture replaces the traditional solid front axle to provide sharper steering response, wheel control, and high-speed stability over washboards.

Chassis reinforcements extend across the underbody to cope with off-road abuse. The rear setup features a trophy-truck-inspired solid axle supported by heavy-duty trailing arms and desert-racing hardware. Broad fender flares widen the overall stance, accommodating bronze-painted beadlock wheels wrapped in oversized all-terrain tyres. Finished in Punk’n orange paint, the exterior features functional rock rails and an integrated structural roll cage that stiffens the frame.

Cabin Architecture and V8 Engine

When we take a look inside, the Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept centres around an adaptable rear seating system designed for quick cargo conversions.

The rear seats clip directly into floor-mounted mounting points, allowing occupants to unclip them completely or rotate them 180 degrees to form rear-facing seats. Removing both rear seats frees up the entire cargo bed for camping gear, swags, and support equipment, with surfaces protected by a heavy-duty spray-applied bedliner.

The cockpit is trimmed in Dark Graphite leather with orange seat inserts and contrast stitching. Bronze metallic accents complement the exterior wheels, while embroidered SRT badges highlight the seatbacks. Front occupants gain deep bolstering to stay planted during violent terrain impacts, assisted by reinforced grab handles and a custom rear-seat Multi-panel System that anchors loose cargo during high-speed runs.

Under the bonnet, SRT installed a high-displacement V8 engine paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a heavy-duty four-wheel-drive transfer case.

Preview of Future Wrangler Hardware

Jeep developed the Wrangler Scrambler SRT Concept strictly as a functional engineering demonstrator and design showcase.

Because it’s a one-off experimental vehicle, the vehicle is not for sale and will not enter commercial production. There are no customer delivery windows or retail programmes associated with the build.

The prototype serves as an active test bed for a future high-speed desert variant of a Jeep product. Components such as the Currie-developed independent front suspension and structural bed integration provide valuable telemetry for future production vehicles and motorsport applications. Ultimately, it’s about clawing back some of the sales ground lost to the Ford Bronco. More information about the Jeep Scrambler can be found at the Stellantis website, linked below.
