Who Were The Big Winners At The 2027 Halliday Wine Companion Awards?

Tasmania and Victoria completely dominated the 2027 Halliday Wine Companion Awards, with the cooler-climate states picking up five of the seven major awards.

House of Arras, a Tasmanian sparkling winery, took home the biggest award of the evening: Winery Of The Year. On the other end of the spectrum, Tasmanian producer Decades, with only two wines and two vintages to its name, took home the award for Best New Winery. Additionally, Decades’ winemaker Steve Flamsteed won Winemaker Of The Year, for his work with the new producer as well as wineries across the Yarra Valley and the Mornington Peninsula.

Heading to Victoria, a Victorian bottle, the Mount Mary Triolet 2024 to be exact, took home the prestigious Wine Of The Year award. Meanwhile, Victorian producer Medhurst scored the win for Best Value Winery, with their most affordable options beginning at just AUD$30.

South Australia picked up a sneaky win, with winery Down The Rabbit Hole earning the People’s Choice Award for the best winery experience. But it was Queensland’s Balancing Heart who delivered a major upset, beating out the usual dominators to win the Dark Horse Winery award. It’s a monumental moment for the state’s wine scene, marking the first time a Queensland winery has ever won a major award at the ceremony.

Who Won White Wine And Red Wine Of The Year?

It was a great year for the Yarra Valley’s Mount Mary, whose yet-to-be-released Triolet 2024 not only won Wine Of The Year, but also claimed the prize for White Wine Of The Year.

However, the winner of Red Wine Of The Year should come as no surprise, with Margaret River’s Xanadu Wines Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 taking home the trophy. It’s just the latest in a long line of accolades for the winery and this bottle specifically, which recently earned global recognition as the #1 red wine in the world.
