Dr. Mario World for iOS and Android is the latest adaption of Nintendo’s puzzle series that first launched on the Game Boy and NES back in 1990. This latest entry arrives on July 10, and if you pre-register now, you will be notified when the game becomes available for download. It’s something to tide you over until Nintendo finally releases Mario Kart Tour for mobile.
In Dr. Mario World, players eliminate viruses by matching them to capsules of the same colour. The puzzles differ from the likes of Tetris. Instead, players take their time and plan as each combination of viruses in every stage must be cleared using a limited number of turns.
This time around Mario isn’t the only doctor on call with a full office of doctors available, including Dr. Peach, Dr. Bowser, Dr. Toad and many others. Each doctor possesses various virus-busting skills. Over 200 stages across many different worlds will be available at launch, with new doctors, stages and worlds added on a regular basis.
Dr. Mario World can also be played together with friends and family around the world. Players can earn and receive stamina-giving hearts from friends and use them in the main game. Plus, in Versus Mode, players can turn up the intensity by challenging others online to one-on-one showdowns in real-time.
The game is free-to-start, meaning it will be a free download with select content available while the remainder will likely require a purchase or purchases, similar to Nintendo’s first mobile game Super Mario Run.
Dr. Mario World arrives on Apple and Android devices on July 10. In the meantime, we challenge you to find how many different jobs the jack-of-all-trades Super Mario has worked during his career. Here’s what we came up with: plumber, builder, go-kart driver, fighter, golfer, tennis pro, painter, baseballer, basketballer and boxing umpire.
