Husqvarna is turning lawns into battlefields with an epic new DOOM integration update for its well-known Automower NERA robotic mower range. Announced at the DreamHack Winter 2023 gaming festival, this revolutionary new update brings a unique twist to your outdoor experience, allowing you to seamlessly transition from perfectly manicuring your lawn to battling demons in DOOM, all with the help of your trusty lawnmower. The new update will be available exclusively for owners of Husqvarna’s latest robotic mower, the Automower NERA, “introduced as a new product feature update.”
The company’s NERA series of lawnmowers is crafted to match different lawn sizes and “utilises proven wire-free technology enabling the mower to work within virtual boundaries, providing total flexibility and ease.” The 320 model handles areas up to 2,200 m² (~23,681 ft²), the 430X NERA is geared for 3,200 m² (~34,445 ft²) gardens, and the top-tier 450X takes charge of expansive lawns spanning 5,000 m² (~53,820 ft²).
What makes these mowers stand out is their seamless integration with the Husqvarna EPOS satellite navigation system. This state-of-the-art wire-free technology allows the mower “to effortlessly navigate within virtual boundaries, ensuring maximum flexibility and user convenience.”

Now, in a bid to add a dash of fun and entertainment to your lawn-mowing routine, Husqvarna has collaborated with Bethesda Softworks to transform your backyard into a gaming haven. From April to September, interested owners can register to download DOOM and play right from the comfort of their own lawn.
The game can be experienced using the onboard display and controls of the robotic lawnmower. To play, simply use the control knob to navigate left and right, press START to move forward, and utilise the STOP button for strafing and opening doors. Firing at oncoming enemies is as simple as pressing the control knob.
During the collaboration announcement, Marty Stratton, the Studio Director at id Software, shared his thoughts, stating, “Over the past 30 years, we’ve continually been amazed by the passion and ingenuity of the DOOM community. The list of ‘things that run DOOM’ is absolutely incredible, and we’re thrilled to see robotic lawn mowers finally added to the list. The engineers at Husqvarna have done a terrific job and we appreciate the inventive and fun tribute.”
