The long-awaited LEGO x Nintendo collaboration is finally here, bringing the ultimate Zelda fan’s dream to life: the incredible Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 Set. This 2,500-piece masterpiece lets you recreate the majestic Great Deku Tree from Ocarina of Time, adorned with “lush green foliage”, or, channel the beauty of Breath of the Wild with the tree in full spring bloom, featuring delicate pink cherry blossoms and “accompanied by the iconic Master Sword pedestal.” But that’s not all.
The new Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 LEGO set also comes with several versions of Link, including young and adult Link from Ocarina of Time in his classic green Hero of Time tunic, and Link from Breath of the Wild in his blue Champion’s tunic.
In the Breath of the Wild version, you’ll be able to build the Great Deku Tree decked out in vibrant pink blossoms, complete with the iconic Master Sword pedestal. What’s really cool about this one is that you can animate the tree’s eyebrows and mouth. Meanwhile, in the Ocarina of Time version, builders will tackle a lush green Great Deku Tree surrounded by foliage. This version also includes Link’s House, a key element from the Ocarina of Time story, “adding an extra layer of nostalgia and authenticity to the set.”
Plus, the whole build is elegantly mounted on stands, making it effortlessly showcase-worthy. LEGO even says that the Great Deku Tree set will have fun interactive features, including the ability to animate the tree’s facial expressions.
“In the Breath of the Wild rendition, the Great Deku Tree’s face can be animated with the simple press of a lever,” LEGO explained in their press release. “While the Ocarina of Time Great Deku Tree version boasts a captivating mechanism: when activated, its mouth opens, revealing a cleverly designed Skulltula (a spider-like enemy from the games) that descends into its depths.”
LEGO designer Wes Talbott shared his thoughts on designing the set, saying, “Our fans have been asking for a LEGO set based on The Legend of Zelda series for a while so we were delighted to work with Nintendo to create the Great Deku Tree in brick form. As a fan of the franchise, it was great to work on this set and fill it with details and references from the games. I’m also glad we managed to offer the choice to build one of two versions to appeal to many Zelda fans. I can’t wait to see the fans’ reaction to this set.”
It wouldn’t be a LEGO set without minifigures, and the Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 set delivers with four iconic characters from the Zelda series. In the Breath of the Wild version, Princess Zelda and Link are in their signature blue outfits, while the Ocarina of Time version includes both Young Link and regular Link. Beyond minifigures, the set also features buildable characters and creatures like Hestu the Korok (complete with his maracas), several smaller Koroks, Deku Babas, Navi the Fairy, the Deku Sprout, and a Skulltula.
Eiji Aonuma, Producer of The Legend of Zelda series at Nintendo, also shared his excitement about the set’s launch, saying, “I’m really thrilled that The Legend of Zelda is joining the world of LEGO bricks, which has spurred the creative impulses of so many people of all ages. The Deku Tree was the first element from The Legend of Zelda we wanted to represent using LEGO bricks. This set allows you to build two different versions of the Deku Tree from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with unique features that are a great fit for the nature of the series. I can’t wait for everyone to get the chance to build this part of The Legend of Zelda world with their own hands.”
Priced at AUD $449.99, the LEGO Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 Set is now available for pre-order on LEGO’s official website, with shipping starting from September 1.
