Sphero BOLT App-Enabled Robot Isn’t Your Grandpa’s Toy

Back in the day, playing with a ball involved one of two activities—throwing or rolling. Yes, those were exciting times….

But that was way back when. Now, you’ll be giving your grandpa one more reason to complain about how easy kids have it these days. The Sphero BOLT App-Enable Robot is a robotic ball that you can control with your smartphone. Using the Sphero Edu app, which is available on any mobile or desktop device and connects with a Bluetooth connection that works with iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, and Chrome, you can program BOLT to do any number of things like running a maze, displaying different animations, or just rolling around.

Coding BOLT is done by drawing, using Scratch blocks, or writing in JavaScript. BOLT includes several programmable sensors, including infrared, compass, light sensor, gyroscope, accelerometer, and motor encoders. It’s durable and waterproof, and charges via inductive charging, with a 2+ hour battery life.

BOLT is also a great teaching tool. You can use bolt to learn or teach programming as well as engineering, among other topics. Sphero Edu is focused on learner progression, and the ball is perfect for STEAM activities.

The ball is back, but this isn’t grandpa’s version. Sphero BOLT is the new way to learn and play.
