The first teaser for the Child’s Play reboot is here to ruin dolls in the same way Pennywise ruined clowns and the Kardashians ruined reality TV. I’m kidding. Reality TV was never good.
The teaser does a bang-up job setting the tone, but only gives two or three glimpses of Chucky. My guess is his reveal is being held back for the first full length-trailer.
Child’s Play is a remake of the 1988 original, where a desperate mother buys her son a Buddi doll from a creepy guy in an alley and surprise, bad things happen. The doll just so happens to be possessed by the soul of a serial killer.
The Child’s Play teaser focuses on Kaslan, the company who makes the Buddi doll and doesn’t mention the serial killer angle. So we’re not sure if the remake will follow the plot of the original or if the new angle will be along the lines of ‘technology gone wrong.’
Child’s Play is directed by Lars Klevberg and stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman. Aubrey Plaza is killing it in the FX series Legion, so we’re delighted with the casting.
Child’s Play lands in Australian cinemas June 20 2019. Be sure to follow the link below for the mock Kaslan Corporation website. It’s just as disturbing as the teaser. And if you have a loved one who collects realistic dolls, maybe persuade them to get a cat instead.
