News broke over the weekend confirming the long-standing rumour that Christian Bale will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the main villain in the upcoming sequel Thor: Love and Thunder. The three-time Batman actor will join a cast of returning faces including Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman and Taika Waititi will return to direct the sequel.
Speaking to ET at the premiere of Westworld season 3, Tessa Thompson, who plays Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame, said, “Christian Bale is going to play our villain, which is going to be fantastic. I’ve read the script. I can’t tell you much.”
“We’re going to have fun. Taika is writing and directing. Some familiar faces. Some new people coming into the mix.”
There’s no word on which villain Christian Bale will play, and Thompson remained tight-lipped, possibly revealing too much info in the first place.
The fourth instalment in the Thor franchise was announced last year during Comic-Con where Marvel revealed its huge Phase 4 line-up of films and series for Disney+. During the conference, it was revealed that Natalie Portman would wield Thor’s hammer.
Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to hit theatres on November 5, 2021. In the meantime, you can see Tessa Thompson is season 3 of Westworld which debuts on HBO March 15 and Taika Waititi’s latest film Jojo Rabbit earned him an Oscar for Adapted Screenplay. Waititi has a busy schedule, as the Kiwi filmmaker is also rumoured to be directing a Star Wars film.
