Just in time for a very silly Christmas viewing with the whole family (maybe not the kiddies) is our favourite film from 2017, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, released on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital today.
The return of the endearingly cockney Eggsy, as he is once again forced to save the world from an evil supervillain, left us all in stitches when we saw it in the cinema upon its original release. Now we’re more than keen to watch it again and again (if not to at least figure out how on Earth director Matthew Vaughn filmed the now infamous “Glastonbury scene”).
Between the perfect tailoring, the return of Colin Firth, the high-octane action scenes and over-the-top-but-in-a-good-way use of gadgets (including the cinematic debut of the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 Special Edition), this movie is pure fun – think of it as Spy Kids but for adults only. Julianne Moore is pure wickedness as the malevolent drug kingpin Poppy, who has her sights set on cleansing the world of its entire population of casual drug users by flogging tainted goods.
In this also lies the mildly political sub-text of the film, which discusses the true efficacy of drug control as governmental policy, and the widespread nature of casual drug use amongst everyday people. But, you know, with robot dogs and Elton John. Order today and you’ll have it in time for a Christmas / New Year’s viewing, once the kid’s have gone to bed.
