New on Netflix in December 2025

The holidays might be cold in most parts of the world, but this December, Netflix is bringing the heat!

Fans of Stranger Things will finally get the closure they’ve been waiting…and waiting…and waiting for as we approach the epic series finale. We’re also geared up for the latest Knives Out mystery, aka Wake Up Dead Man. Here’s hoping it makes up for the goofy Glass Onion. Bring in a new Noah Bambach movie starring Adam Sandler and George Clooney, and ’tis the season for exciting content, indeed.

Here’s everything coming to Netflix in December 2025.

Best New Series on Netflix

When it comes to Netflix titles, the original series and TV events are undoubtedly its crown jewels.

These are the best new TV shows and movies that are coming to Netflix this month, before we break down every new release at the end of this article. If you’re unsure where to begin, consider starting with these shows first.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft: Season 2

Release Date: 11 December

This animated adaptation of the popular video game franchise isn’t exactly what the fans ordered, but maybe it will hit its stride with a new – and reportedly final – season. Follow treasure hunter Lara Croft (voiced by Hayley Atwell) as she embarks on high-stakes adventures. In Season 2, Croft and a cohort track down a stolen African mask whilst evading a ruthless billionaire.

Emily in Paris: Season 5

Release Date: 18 December

American marketing strategist Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) left Paris for Rome at the end of Season 4, paving the way for a fresh start. She reinvents herself Italian-style in Season 5, but personal and professional entanglements have a way of finding her. Tune in for new stories of love, friendship, and fashion against the always romantic European backdrop.

Stranger Things: Volume 5, Part 2

Release Date: 26 December

What began in 2016 with a zeitgeist-capturing first season will finally come to a close just under a decade later. With Hawkins in lockdown and Eli in hiding, our heroes seek to destroy the evil Vecna once and for all. Episodes 5 through 7 will debut on 26 December, while the nearly two-hour finale – directed by The Duffer Brothers – will air on 31 December. Brace yourselves accordingly.

Best New Movies on Netflix

A full catalogue of Netflix movies is refreshed and revitalised each and every month, giving subscribers a fresh mix of blockbuster titles, new releases, hidden indie gems and underrated world films. Whether you have been on the hunt for a new flick to fill in your Saturday night or you are a certified film freak, Netflix is a great place to start your viewing adventure. Here is a list of the best new Netflix movies being added to the platform this month.

Jay Kelly

Release Date: 5 December

We love a good show business story, a good road trip movie, and a good Noah Baumbach outing, yet we’re still approaching this one with a degree of caution. Early word is that it might be just a bit too plodding and self-indulgent for our tastes. The story centres around aging movie star Jay Kelly (George Clooney), who reflects upon the past while traversing Europe with his manager (Adam Sandler). Prove us wrong, Jay Kelly!

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery

Release Date: 12 December

Allow us to briefly air our grievances over Glass Onion, the second entry in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out franchise. It began with a relatively uninteresting cast of characters and gradually devolved into self-parody (which may or may not have been the point), culminating in a hairbrained conclusion. That said, we loved the first film and enjoy most of Johnson’s work, so we’re still pretty excited for this third instalment. It brings detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) to a small town in upstate New York, where he investigates the murder of an eccentric church leader (Josh Brolin).

Goodbye June

Release Date: 13 December

Actress Kate Winslet makes her directorial debut with this holiday drama, in which she also stars. When a family matriarch (Helen Mirren) becomes gravely ill before Christmas, it sends four siblings and their father into a tailspin. As the mother faces death on her own terms, her family must reconcile their differences and come together in a time of crisis.

Things to Consider for Netflix

When it comes to streaming services, Netflix is arguably the biggest and best-known. The entertainment juggernaut has produced some of the most binged series in recent memory, not to mention given new life to ageing and formerly cancelled favourites. When considering a subscription or simply wanting to know what to watch on Netflix, here are some key factors to keep in mind.

Subscription

To watch new Netflix series and movies, you will need to subscribe to the platform. That being said, you can see what is out there before you sign up as it is possible to browse Netflix without subscribing. You can browse Netflix’s full catalogue of titles without subscribing by visiting netflix.com/watch-free. With this site, you can watch the first episode of many popular series without needing to sign up.

Titles and Originals

Netflix is renowned for its massive catalogue of titles, highlighted primarily by its extensive range of Netflix originals. These in-house productions receive the most significant marketing push on the platform, so you have likely tuned in, seen one or two or unwittingly binged whole seasons. For reference, the most-viewed series in Netflix history is reportedly Season 1 of Squid Game, which generated an estimated 265,200,000 views, followed by Season 1 of Wednesday with 252,100,000 views and Season 4 of Stranger Things with 140,700,000 views.
