‘Rush Hour 4’ is Happening: Jackie Chan Claims Sequel is in the Works

Jackie Chan is getting ready to karate chop more bad guys, with the 68-year-old martial arts legend confirming that he is in active talks for a Rush Hour 4 movie. At the recently held Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the iconic action star not only reminisced about his 60-year-long acting career but also revealed what lies ahead of him. Chan told audiences he is in early conversations about making a fourth Rush Hour movie, a franchise that gave him his first huge blockbuster success. While addressing the fans and the crowd, Chan said, “We’re talking about (Rush Hour) part 4 right now.” He further mentioned that he would be meeting with the film’s director to discuss the movie’s overall script/plot, although, he did not disclose who the director would be.

Those familiar with the Rush Hour franchise might know that all the previous three instalments were directed by the American producer-director Brett Ratner, who, in 2017, was accused of sexual misconduct and harassment with seven women. This led Warner Bros. to part ways with Ratner, thus cutting him out of all the projects. Rush Hour producer Arthur Sarkissian confirmed Ratner’s lack of involvement by revealing that he wasn’t “attached” to the film in any way whatsoever. He said, “All I’m interested in is to make the best movie possible.”

So from the looks of it, Rush Hour 4 might see someone new in the directing chair, but nothing can be said for certain. Even though the first two movies were big money makers, the third film sort of felt like an overdo of the rinse-and-repeat formula and was mundane. That said, there’s nothing else we would want more than to see Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker back in their iconic roles. Somehwat unsurprising, this isn’t the first time we are hearing discussions about a fourth movie. In an appearance on the Wining It podcast in 2018, Chris Tucker he told fans that a fourth film was likely to go ahead.

“It’s happening,” he said. “This is gonna be the rush of all rushes. Jackie is ready and we want to do this so that people don’t ever forget it.” However, as we all know, nothing came to fruition. With Jackie Chan now rekindling the forgotten flames for Rush Hour 4, there’s a chance that something might have changed internally. Hopefully this time we won’t have to wait long enough to find out.
