For a Crisp $158, Disneyland will Let You Build Your Own Lightsaber

Have you ever dreamed of designing your own lightsaber? Well, now you can!

I mean, sort of. Obviously it’s not an actual lightsaber that you can use to chop people’s hands off and such: we should make that quite clear from the outset. But it’ll look just like the real thing, and it’ll be yours to show off forever. All you need is USD$158. Plus however much it’ll cost you to travel and gain admission to Disneyland.

Still, I bet Luke’s cost even more than that.

The custom lightsabers will be available from Savi’s Workshop in Disneyland’s new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge theme park, due to open on May 31 at Disneyland California and August 29 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida.

After shelling out USD$109 for a hilt and USD$49 for a blade – not sure whether it’s necessary to have separate prices, as getting one without the other would be an odd move – you can choose from four hilts and four blades to create the lightsaber of your dreams. Assuming your dreams are of lightsabers featuring one of these four hilts and four blades.

The hilts come in Power and Control for dark-side denizens, Elemental Nature for more hippyish Jedi, Protection and Defense for a more ye olde worlde feel, or Peace and Justice for the classic Republic-era Jedi design. As for blades, you can go for Luke blue, Vader red, Kenobi green or Mace Windu purple.

It’s all pretty badass, and we’re sure millions will soon be flocking to Savi’s Workshop to ask the Gatherers – “A secretive group of people who have dedicated their lives to restoring balance in the galaxy by passing on their knowledge of Jedi lore and the Force”, apparently – to help them fulfil a lifelong fantasy.

And then the air will ring out with swooshing noises, all around the world.
