Burberry Sets the Bar and the Waistline Very High with First Live Runway in 2 Years
It’s mind-blowing to think how long it’s been since fashion week has been in full swing globally. Marking its first live runway show in two years, Burberry reveals its Autumn/Winter Collection for 2022. Largely informed by British culture, the brand explores the intersectionality of the British identity through fashion. A celebration of community, the collection’s main inspiration is the sprawling metropolis of London. Home to the brand’s inception and growth, the Autumn/Winter 2022 collection embraces multiple facets of British attitude – adventure, instinct, and progress.

Embarking on a new chapter in the brand’s rich history, the new era reimagines heritage silhouettes with a playful twist. Exploring classic British conventions and subcultural influences the new pieces debut a fresh perspective and fabrication of Burberry’s finest. Still paying homage to legacy concepts, the collection includes archival favourites like the Equestrian Knight Design and an energizing interpretation of the classic trench coat.
Discussing the collection’s origins, chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci shared in a press statement, “It was important for me to explore what it means to belong, how our roots influence our identity and how the power of community and togetherness is what truly brings meaning to the world. Therefore, I wanted this collection to convey that intensity of feeling and to celebrate not only coming together, but the city in which we come together today; the city in which Burberry grew and established a family.”
For over 130 years Burberry has established itself as a global luxury brand. Now with the Autumn/Winter Collection the brand unifies diversity through style. Capturing the British essence with opulent elegance and impeccable convictions, the runway show took place in a historic theatre. With a big emphasis on menswear this season, we delve into some of the exceptional offerings for the guys.
Outerwear is the key focus of the menswear capsule. Aviator jackets, carcoats, and bomber jackets pervade the diverse range – channelling ingenuity from avant-garde British tendencies. Print puffer jackets incorporate deep tones of leather, while exaggerated hoods contrast with classical silhouettes. In general, the coats seek to accentuate structure and underscore leather features. Core colours of black, dark grey melange and navy create an autumnal colour scheme with contrasting accents.
Furthermore, modernity plays another large role in the conception of these pieces. High-waisted trousers play with the eye, as exposed detailing and layered shirts survey different textures. Other bottom interpretations include trenched skirts made of leather and waxed cotton, finished with gleaming buttons. The contemporary also translates to several tops in the collection, with tailoring features on hooded shirts that relay a progressive look.
Lastly, we can’t forget about the accessories that polish off these fits. Classic crossbodies and minimal pouches sport illusive prints inspired by iconic British packaging. The menswear line also features the emblematic Arthur sneaker, developed with a fully upper leather and enriched with lace embellishments. With a knack for communicating the British attitude, Burberry’s new collection is an epitome of sophistication and class.
