Omega speedmaster professional 2022 series 1

OMEGA’s Gold Speedmaster Twins are for Sporty and Serious Collectors

First released in 1957, the Omega Speedmaster is a watch that needs no introductions. How many watches can say they’ve been a part of all six moon-landings? The list starts and ends with the Omega Speedmaster and for its latest iteration, the brand has employed an all-new ‘Moonshine’ finish to offer the wearer increased durability and a new level of watch circle recognition. Taking inspiration from the 4th Generation timepiece this new 42mm reference hints at the model’s history with such intricate details as the dot over 90, the lunar surface pattern under the rubber band and the words FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON engraved in black. Let’s check them out.

What on Earth is Moonshine Gold?

Omega lays claim to this soon to be a famous name in watches, but what exactly is Moonshine Gold?

Essentially, it’s an 18K yellow gold alloy finish, created in 2019, that’s slightly lighter/ paler when compared to the traditional 18K gold. In this application, it adorns the new range of Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch and you’d be hardpressed to spot an area where it hasn’t been implemented. We love the slightly lighter hue here when contrasted by the rubber strap, but other areas include; case, bracelet, case body, bezel, crown, pushers, case back, hour markers, dial elements, hour-minute hands, subdial hands, and bracelet.

Gold on Gold

If you’re looking for all-out watch circle recognition – but can’t get your hands on the Tiffany Patek – the latest Speedmaster Professional Moonshine Gold with matching bracelet might be your next best bet. The case and bracelet are finished in 18K Moonshine Gold with a sun-brushed green PVD “step” dial and “Moonwatch” style hands. The green ceramic bezel ring, with OMEGA Ceragold tachymeter scale, features the famous dot over 90. Enough of a talking point in its own right. And in case you’re wondering that’s a green ceramic bezel ring and dial, yum.

Bracelet: Moonshine gold
Case: Moonshine gold
Case diameter: 42 mm
Dial colour: Green
Crystal: Scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal with anti‑reflective treatment inside
Water resistance: 5 bar (50 metres / 167 feet)

Gold on Rubber

In its Gold on Rubber reference, the Speedmaster Moonshine Gold features the same dimensions but trades the gold bracelet for a sportier rubber strap, blackened subdials, indexes, ceramic bezel ring with OMEGA Ceragold tachymeter scale, and the famous dot over 90. Caseback is the same polished 18K Moonshine Gold number with double bevels and the words FIRST WATCH WORN ON THE MOON engraved in black. It’s also powered by the same Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861.

It’s a tough decision between the two, however, we’re leaning towards the rubber strap… oh it’s already sold out? Guess we’re having lobster for dinner tonight instead of ramen noodles.

Bracelet: Rubber strap
Case: Moonshine gold
Case diameter: 42 mm
Dial colour: Yellow
Crystal: Scratch‑resistant sapphire crystal with anti‑reflective treatment inside
Water resistance: 5 bar (50 metres / 167 feet)
