The Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue Coming to US

As popular as the Black Bay family of watches from Tudor is, the classic watch still isn’t for everyone. But that’s all changing. Of late, Tudor has been diversifying its Black Bay line with new materials and sizes. A notable example is the Black Bay Bronze, a model that increased the case size from the standard 41mm to 43mm. In 2018, Tudor partnered with retailer Bucherer to release the Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue—a Black Bay model featuring a deep blue dial and bezel, but up until now, the release has been exclusively sold in Europe. Now, with Bucherer purchasing US retailer Tourneau, the watch on finally on its way to the US.

Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue watch

The Bucherer Blue features a case, as the name suggests, that is made of bronze. It’s an interesting choice for a case, but when you consider how this brass and tin alloy ages to create a unique look, you begin to appreciate what this watch will someday be. Tudor actually uses an ally with aluminum in it, which reportedly patinas in a much more subtle way then you might expect, going from a bright, almost gold color to a darker appearance over time.

Both colours—bright gold and dark—balance nicely against the blue dial and bezel. To further connect case and dial, the accents are gilt in gold. The dial itself is a unique offering as well. For this Black Bay, Tudor went with an “explorer dial,” using Arabic numerals at 3, 6, and 9 o’clock.

By no means is this a small watch. Measuring 43mm in diameter with a thickness of 14mm, the Bucherer Blue has a presence on your wrist that is hard to ignore—not that you would want to ignore this USD$4,150 watch any way. Inside that large case is a MT5601 caliber movement that boasts a COSC certification for accuracy. It also features a 70 hour reserve and is built around a silicone balance spring.

The watch comes on a blue woven jacquard strap with a beige stripe. If you’ve been tempted by Black Bay before, but just couldn’t find the right look, then you may have just found the perfect match with the Tudor Black Bay Bronze Bucherer Blue.
