With rich red soils atop ancient limestone, and vast, flat plains, it’s no surprise that the South Australian region has impressed year after year. For 2023, however, the highly anticipated vintage Riddoch Coonawarra 2023 Vintage expresses all that the Coonawarra region in South Australia is known for.

The wine awarded ‘best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world’, The Pastoralist Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is unlike anything else. With a dark magenta colour, lifted spice, sweet oak aromatic and intense dark fruit flavours, it’s the finest expression of the vintage, or in other words – if you see it on the shelves, grab it! Its recent accolades include the gold medal at the 2023 The Global Cabernet Sauvignon Masters, the gold medal at the 2023 International Wine Challenge as well as the Australian Cabernet Sauvignon and International Cabernet Sauvignon winner at the 2023 International Wine Challenge.

“To see our Riddoch ‘Pastoralist’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 awarded the International Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy at the IWC is truly an honour and a testament to the hard work and dedication put into every bottle,” Riddoch Coonawarra’s winemaker Matt Reimann said.

Aside from the world-beater, Riddoch also introduced a new flagship range – 2019 The Author Cabernet Sauvignon and 2019 The Author Shiraz, recently awarded platinum at the Decanter World Wine Awards, and 2021 The Winegrower Shiraz and 2021, The Representative Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, both awarded gold at the Limestone Coast Wine Show (2021). With so many awards, it’s hard to decide which we should try first!

The 2021 season delivered some of the finest growing conditions the pair had witnessed in their history with Riddoch. Red wine varietals were harvested through cool and dry conditions, perfect for ripening, allowing full flavour development and optimal sugar levels – for those with limited wine knowledge (no judgement) this also means, perfect for drinking!

“We are excited to introduce the first annual release of our Riddoch Coonawarra Collection that marks the launch of our new tier, “The Author” range from the 2019 vintage, as well as our ‘Vocation Series’ range from the 2021 vintage in Coonawarra,” chief winemaker Tim Heath explained.
