meistersinger sydney city edition 2018

MeisterSinger Sydney City Edition 2018

The City Edition from MeisterSinger celebrates Sydney’s vibrant and colourful history, along with 57 other cities that make up MeisterSinger’s City edition family. The MeisterSinger Sydney City Edition 2018 embodies the effervescent nature of being a Sydney-sider. The softness of that dal is complimented really well with the blue hand and hour numerals, much like the waters of our shores. The stainless-steel case is sized at a very wearable 43mm in diameter, and the over-sized ribbed crown is, in itself, a statement of the MeisterSinger Sydney City Edition 2018. Turn the piece over and you can see a custom motif atop the sapphire crystal of Sydney’s infamous Opera House and surrounding areas, along with “Sydney”, “Australia” and your limited number inscribed on the caseback. A very fitting tribute to one of the world’s greatest cities!

nomos glashütte autobahn

NOMOS Glashütte Autobahn

A recent winner of the German Design Awards, the Autobahn from NOMOS Glashütte is one of the most dynamic pieces from the German atelier. The Autobahn was made in collaboration with renowned designers, Tina Bunyaprasit and Werner Aisslinger. It’s a bold piece with a very distinctive dial design. Pops of colour adorn the Autobahn’s aesthetic, but it doesn’t deter from its clean and sharp design. Inspired by the analog gauges in classic cars, the Autobahn bridges the gap between past and present in a super appealing way. There are three model variants. There’s a white model, a grey model and a blue model. Each carry with them different virtues and different feels, with each being as impressive as the other. The Autobahn is powered by NOMOS’ in-house calibre DUW 6101 and is available now.

mido ocean star diver 600

Mido Ocean Star Diver 600

New from Mido is the Ocean Star Diver 600, a heavy-duty watch built to survive even the harshest of environments. This is a beast, no two-ways about it. From its 600m rated water resistant case to its immense 80-hours’ worth of power reserve, the Ocean Star Diver 600 is more watch than you’d ever need. Two versions, one with a black dial and black rubber strap, and the other with a blue dial and stainless-steel bracelet, each representing some of the very best stuff from a brand that you may not have heard of until now. The Ocean Star Diver 600 features a helium valve, a push down bezel, SuperLuminova Grade X markers and a COSC certified movement. A hell of a lot of watch for $1,700USD, that’s for sure.

Swatch SHINEBRIGHT

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love Christmas. I revel in it. It’s easily my favourite time of the year. Christmas trees, Christmas lights, decorations and Christmas songs in shopping centres. I’m a sucker for all of it. And then comes along Swatch with the SHINEBRIGHT. This is just about as cheery I’d want a watch to look. Honestly, I couldn’t see myself ever wearing it, but I know that the limited run of 5,005 pieces will sell like hot-cakes. Clad in red, the SHINEBRIGHT features an alcantara bracelet with sparkling Swarovski stones and a snowflake on the dial, just in case you needed any more reminding that Christmas is well and truly on its way. Priced at $170AUD, this is the perfect present to gift either yourself or your festive-obsessed friend.

chopard luc perpetual t

Chopard L.U.C Perpetual T “Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac”

A piece unique from one of my favourite “fly-under-the-radar” brands, the Chopard L.U.C Perpetual T “Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac” is a celebration of the use of ethical gold. Ethical gold is defined by Chopard as “gold acquired from responsible sources, verified as having met international best practice environment and social standards”. The L.U.C Perpetual T “Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac” features a 43mm wide and 15.02mm thick 18k ethical rose gold case, adorned by 12 of the Chinese Zodiacs. Hand-engraved by Chopard’s in-house artisans, the Mains d’Art, the L.U.C Perpetual T “Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac” features extensive engraving throughout the case. The Chopard L.U.C Perpetual T “Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac” is powered by an absolute beast of a movement. The Calibre 02.15-L powers the piece, and is made up of four barrels (aka the Quattro system), which boasts 216-hours’ worth of power reserve, along with 353-components, a tourbillon and, of course, a perpetual calendar. This is a piece unique with pricing on request, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chopard L.U.C Perpetual T “Spirit of the Chinese Zodiac” has already been spoken for.

tag heuer carrera heuer 02 fragment limited edition

TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02 Fragment Limited Edition by Hiroshi Fujiwara

The last piece to feature on this week’s Wind Up is the brand-new TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02 Fragment Limited Edition by Hiroshi Fujiwara. For those of you (myself included) who weren’t aware of who or what Fragment is, it’s basically a design type that was created by Japanese designer, Hiroshi Fujiwara. It’s a fresh look on collaboration with big brands, and to be quite honest with you I couldn’t care less who or what it is (no offence). The watch itself is actually so cool, though. Outside of the pragmatic and often scoffed-at issue of collaborations, the Carrera Heuer 02 Fragment Limited Edition is really very appealing to me. Aesthetically, the mesh between a super-modern design brand and an ultra-traditional watchmaker has been pulled off very well. Detailed and textural components adorn the dial, and there’s snippets of the Fragment brand namesake throughout. One for the collectors? Doubt it. But it’s a fresh approach from TAG Heuer in hitting an otherwise fairly obscure market niche.
