Uber Pass Explained: New Australian Subscription Service for Cheaper Rides and Food

Uber has just launched a new subscription service in Australia, Uber Pass and it’s set to deliver (pun intended) major savings, discounts and exclusive offers. Through the new membership offer, millions of Aussies will now have access to a wide range of perks across both Uber rides and Uber Eats restaurants, improving connectivity, mobility and delivery. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Uber Pass membership service.

What is Uber Pass?

Uber Pass is a monthly subscription service that launched in Australia on 18 May 2021. Under the subscription model, members will have access to discounted same-day delivery options alongside consistent savings on travel for $14.99 a month. As Australia is one of the first countries in the world to provide the combined Uber and Uber Eats offering, Uber Pass members are able to connect the two models under one membership.

“The Uber platform has become a gateway to the world of e-commerce and small business and an increasingly valuable accessory for everyday life – every hour of the day. From providing a host of mobility choices through to grocery, convenience, alcohol and pharmacy,” Uber wrote in a blog post. “The Uber app is connecting more people with more businesses and opportunities across Australia and we’re going to have these evergreen features embedded into Uber Pass on day one.”

Here is what an Uber Pass membership will get you:

  • At least 10% off rides (excluding Pool and Hourly).
  • $0 Delivery Fee from select restaurants with a $20 minimum basket*
  • $0 Delivery Fee on from select grocery and convenience stores with a $20 minimum basket*
  • And a refreshed carousel of exclusive member perks – launching with a $20 grocery voucher.

How Much Does Uber Pass Cost in Australia?

An Uber Pass subscription costs AUD$14.99 per month. Considering that most delivery from Uber Eats will set you back around $5, it’s a fair price for the service, however, it remains to be seen how many restaurants fit into the ‘select’ category. Additionally, the $20 grocery voucher outweighs the first month’s investment, so while it may be a bit of a gamble to begin with, it does even out in the long run. Perhaps most interesting, the Australian version of Uber Pass is cheaper than its U.S. counterpart, which prices a membership at USD$25 per month.

Important to note,  Uber Pass works on a recurring payment basis upon sign up. For those who wish to cancel their membership, you will need to physically do so before the start of the next billing cycle to avoid paying for another month. Uber also confirmed that Uber Vouchers and Gift Cards cannot be used to pay for Uber Pass.
