2023 Toyota GR86 10th Anniversary Edition Confirmed as Sub-$50,000 Manual Marvel

Toyota Australia is celebrating a milestone moment, notching 10 years of affordable performance courtesy of 86 sports cars, and to mark the occasion, the automaker is dropping a limited-run 10th Anniversary edition. Restricted to just 86 examples, the new Toyota GR86 10th Anniversary Edition puts the best of both worlds in one sleek-looking silhouette. Those lucky enough to score one, which at this stage is likely to be current Gazoo Racing Club members, will have the option of either a 6-speed automatic or a much more-enticing 6-speed manual. Long live the stick.

From the outset, the new Toyota GR86 10th Anniversary edition cuts an imposing figure. Distinguished by its distinctive Solar Orange exterior paint scheme, the vehicle is a nod to the original “hachi roku” first revealed to the world in late 2011 when the classic car debuted. The interior too gets a splash of orange with contrast stitching applied to the steering wheel, handbrake lever and boot, shift boot, seats, and door trim. Orange stripe accents also appear on the Ultrasuede/leather accented seats, while the inside of the door trims features 10th Anniversary orange embroidery.

Lastly, the silver instrument panel moulding has been changed to an all-black look. The equipment list continues to be the same and it includes 18-inch black alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, heated front seats, aluminium pedals, an 8.0-inch multimedia display, 7.0-inch multi-information display and two-zone automatic climate control.

In terms of the powertrain, the GR86 also remains mechanically unchanged with a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine developing 234 horsepower at 7000rpm and 250Nm at 3700rpm. The first 86 was launched in Australia in 2012 while the current GR86 was introduced in September last year.

Toyota Australia vice president sales, marketing and franchise operations, Sean Hanley said the addition of the 10th Anniversary Edition reflected the popularity of the driver-focused sports car in Australia.

“When it launched in 2012, the first-generation 86 struck a chord with those looking for an affordable sports car representing great value with Toyota reliability,” Hanley said. “This new 10th Anniversary Edition channels the spirit of the original 86 while introducing a range of unique design touches, along with all upgrades that the GR86 delivered when we launched it last year.”

Compared to the standard GR86 GTS trim, there has been a sizeable increase owing to the limited-edition status of the 10th Anniversary model as it is priced at $46,700 plus on-road costs. Considering it’s still a sub-$50,000 sports car, this ultra-limited release could very well could quickly.
