2025 Ford Ranger PHEV Price and Specs Revealed

Due in mid-2025 (bad news for novated-lease buyers) the 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV has been revealed, and we have a full list of prices and specs for the Australian market.

The Chinese-made competitors (BYD Shark 6 and GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV) have managed to get to market first at a significantly lower price point, but the Ranger PHEV has practicality on its side with a 3.5-tonne towing and near-one-tonne-payload. Still, if you want this level of practicality it’s going to cost you, and the Ranger PHEV is priced from AUD$71,990 plus on-road costs.

Still, many thought the Ranger PHEV was going to hit showrooms at a $10,000 price premium over the diesel equivalent, so it’s impressive that the brand has managed to place it within $5,000 of the popular V6 diesel in some model grades. Now, enough waffle, let’s take a closer look at the vehicle’s features in detail.

How Much is the 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV?

The 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV is priced from AUD$71,990 plus on-road costs for the entry-level XLT variant. Meanwhile, the most expensive model is the Ford Ranger PHEV Stormtrak (Launch Edition) which is priced from AUD$86,990 plus on-road costs and is still cheaper than the flagship Ranger Raptor (from AUD$90,440 plus on-roads).

We’ve included a full list of standard equipment for each model grade at the end of this article, but here’s a full list of pricing for the 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV:

  • XLT: from AUD$71,990 plus on-road costs
  • Sport: from AUD$75,990 plus on-road costs
  • Wildtrak: from AUD$79,990 plus on-road costs
  • Stormtrak (Launch Edition): from AUD$86,990 plus on-road costs

This makes it considerably more expensive than its closest competitor, the $57,900 plus on-road costs BYD Shark 6. However, it needs to be said that these vehicles are quite different when it comes to towing (2,500kg vs. 3,500kg) and payload (934kg vs. 790kg) to the point that they almost serve two different purposes.

How does that place the new Ford Ranger PHEV line-up price-wise? Well, here’s a look at the complete Ford Ranger 4×4 pricing in Australia with the PHEV models bolded.

  • XL 2.0L Diesel, 4×4, Single Cab Chassis: $47,980
  • XL 2.0L Diesel, 4×4, Double Cab Chassis: $48,980

What’s the Interior Like in the 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV?

If you’ve spent any time in a next-gen Ford Ranger then the interior of the PHEV will look very similar, but it does come with additional standard kit in the entry-level XLT model grade to outdo its diesel counterpart. Still, the higher-spec models (Sport, Wildtrak, Stormtrak) are more closely related to their diesel cousins.

Choose the entry-level XLT model and you get the larger 12-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto usually offered on the Ford Ranger Wildtrak. Don’t expect to find much else, however, as you’re stuck with 8-way manual cloth seats, a 6-speaker audio system, a basic digital instrument cluster, push-button start, smart keyless entry, and dual-zone climate control as the key features. Of course, there are all of those PHEV benefits too, like AC outlets and powerful USB-C ports, that we’ll talk about in a moment.

Higher trims (Sport, Wildtrak, Stormtrak) add nice-to-haves like leather-accented seats (excluding middle seat in the second row), power-adjustable front seats (8-way), heated front seats, ambient lighting (Wildtrak and Stormtrak), 10-speaker B&O Premium Audio (Wildtrak & Stormtrak), pull-out cup holders, and finally, wireless charging (Sport and above).

However, most of the features found on the the higher-spec trim levels should be standard on the entry-level XLT model which starts from AUD$71,990 before on-roads.

What Powers the Ford Ranger PHEV?

Simply put, the Ford Ranger PHEV makes more power and torque than the V6 Diesel models in the line-up. It’s powered by a 2.3-litre turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine that makes 138kW, and when combined with a 75kW electric motor, the Ranger PHEV has a combined power output of 207kW at 4,600 RPM and 697Nm of torque at 2500 RPM.

  • Total System Power: 207kW @ 4600 RPM
  • Total System Torque: 697Nm @ 2500 RPM
  • Petrol Engine Power: 138kW @ 4600 RPM
  • Petrol Engine Torque: 411Nm @ 2700 RPM
  • Electric Motor Power: 75kW

These engine specifications compare favourably to the Ranger V6 Diesel, which makes 184kW of power at 3,250rpm and 600Nm of torque at 1,750-2,250rpm.

Despite all of this hybrid trickery, it retains the 3,500kg braked towing capacity (same as diesel) and comes with a 973kg payload in Sport specification (which is higher than most diesel variants). On paper, there are not many compromises, but we’ll be sure to confirm this when we get behind the wheel.

Like other PHEVs, there’s an 11.8kWh (usable) battery to power the electric motor and Pro Power Onboard system, and when utilised, it will provide a claimed all-electric driving range of up to 48km. Similarly, fuel economy is marked at 2.7 litres per 100km (claimed combined cycle) but we know from experience that you’re more than likely going to double that in the real world unless you charge your PHEV every night and drive it around on battery power only.

Finally, power is sent to the ground through a 10-speed automatic modular hybrid transmission with full-time 4WD, selectable drive modes, and a regenerative braking system.

“All owners need to do is plug the Ranger PHEV in every night to charge the battery like they would their phone,” said Myles Hartley, General Manager of Electric Vehicles, Ford Australia. “The power to unlock incredible fuel saving is in the hands of owners, with Ranger PHEV’s drive modes giving drivers the ability to complete entire trips without using the combustion engine or saving the battery for when it will be at its most efficient – such as slow stop-start traffic.”

“Even without a charged battery providing electrical assistance, the 2.3-litre EcoBoost has proven to provide impressive highway fuel economy figures. And for when getting off the line quickly is a top priority, Ranger PHEV benefits from the ‘Sport’ drive mode that was previously exclusive to Ranger Raptor, which engages the hybrid system to deliver as much power and torque as possible with a sharp throttle calibration.”

How Does it Compare to the Diesel Models?

While carrying around a large 11.8kWh (usable) battery can be more of a detriment than a benefit if you don’t keep it charged (with a power cable overnight or the engine itself) there are some key advantages to this technology. Ford introduces Pro Power Onboard for the Ranger PHEV, and it lets you charge and power your power tools and camping gear with a 6.9kW max output through three sockets in the vehicle (1x 2.3kW in cabin, 2x 3.45kW in tray).

To keep all of this hybrid goodness in check, there are three selectable EV drive modes, they include:

  • Auto EV (automatically switches between petrol and electric)
  • EV Now (electric-only)
  • EV Later (reserves battery power for later use)
  • EV Charge (uses the engine to recharge the battery while driving)

“The different drive modes in Ranger PHEV gives the freedom of flexibility to owners in how they want to utilise the vehicle’s hybrid powertrain,” said Thomas Smith, Product & Retail Marketing Manager – Commercial EVs.

“If you know you only have a single journey for the day, and will end your trip with charging available, you might choose EV Now for example. This means the Ranger PHEV will only use the power provided by the battery and provide maximum fuel savings. On the flip side, if you know you have a long drive ahead of you and want to keep your electric driving range for when it is most effective, or you’d like to save the battery to use Pro Power Onboard at your destination, EV Later prioritises the combustion engine to maintain the Ranger’s current state of charge.”

Then there’s EV Charge which turns the combustion engine into a generator to help put power back into the battery. If you’re rocking up to a remote campground and you forget to hit the “EV Later” button but want to use the Pro Power Onboard features then you’ll have to lean on this “EV Charge” model to charge the battery before you get there. It will be interesting to see how this feature works, as sometimes, smaller-engined PHEV vehicles become quite sluggish when the battery is depleted the engine is trying to both recharge the battery and power the vehicle.

When Does the 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV Arrive?

Ford Australia says the 2025 Ford Ranger PHEV is scheduled to launch in mid-2025.

“The addition of PHEV to the Ranger lineup marks the first time in history that Australia’s best-selling nameplate has been offered with an electrified plug-in hybrid option,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia. “Our Aussie engineering and design team have created a plug-in hybrid that allows diesel ute buyers to begin their electrification journey without sacrificing any of the core capability that they need from a truck – whether they use it for work or play.”

“The Ranger PHEV is just the tip of the spear for our commercial EV line-up, with the E-Transit Custom and Transit Custom PHEV set to join E-Transit in our line-up soon. If you are an Aussie business wanting to explore whether an electrified vehicle is right for you, we will have four incredibly capable vehicles on offer to suit your needs.”
