Lamborghini’s New 907 Horsepower Hybrid Is Impressive

The Lamborghini Huracan successor has arrived, and it’s a good one. Called the Lamborghini Temerario – which translates to “reckless” in English – it’s hiding a 920CV (907HP) 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 that can rev to 10,000rpm and combines with three-electric motors. At first glance, it’s a more subtle, smarter-looking vehicle that seems to dually satisfy Lamborghini owners and fill the void left by the Audi R8. However, that doesn’t mean the car has taken a step back performance-wise because it’s faster in every way.

In a straight line, it’s faster than the hardcore track-special Lamborghini Huracan STO, completing the 0-100km/h sprint (0-62 mph) in 2.7 seconds before a top speed of over 340 km/h (210 mph).

These numbers align with its main competition, the Ferrari 296GTB, which uses a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine that produces 830CV (819HP) at 8,000 rpm and completes the 0-100km/h sprint in 2.9 seconds. Of course, in typical Ferrari fashion, those numbers are probably a lie. YouTube channel Carwow proved that it walks away from the new hybrid V12-powered Lamborghini Revuelto in drag races, so there’s a very real chance the new Lamborghini Temerario will be faster than its big brother. Let’s take a closer look!

The in-house (not Audi) 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine is a masterclass in engineering with a peak power of 800CV from 9,000 to 9,750 rpm and 730 Nm of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm. It utilises a flat-plane crankshaft (like a racecar), titanium conrods, and A357+Cu engine casting which helps the Lamborghini Temerario reach that 10,000 rpm redline.

We haven’t had a chance to hear the car in person yet, but Rouven Mohr, CTO of Lamborghini, says “With the V8 biturbo, the amplitude and frequency of the sound increase as the engine speed rises, and thanks to the flat-plane crankshaft, subtle vibrations underline the power of the drive depending on the engine speed. For the occupants, the ride in the Temerario is an incredible experience for all the senses. Drivers will be roused by the powerful Lamborghini sound, and feel it with every fibre of their body.”

What he doesn’t say is that an additional sound symposer emits acoustic waves (fake noise) into the interior. This isn’t uncommon in supercars, but not something you required with the screaming V10.

For added performance and efficiency, two electric motors have been added to the front axle, with 220 kW and up to 2,150 Nm of torque (the continuous output is 60 kW). Meanwhile, a third single 110kW electric motor has been added to the rear between the engine and 8-speed dual-clutch transmission for torque-filling duties; it also works as a starter motor and three-phase generator. These electric motors provide Electric torque vectoring for handling purposes.

There is no listed all-electric range, but it carries a 3.8 kWh battery that can be recharged in 30 minutes, which is remarkably slow for such a small battery. However, owners will opt to use the power of the V8 engine instead.

If you want to increase performance and bring some of that 1,690 kg (3.725,8 lb) dry-weight down, the Temeraro will be available with a lightweight ‘Alleggerita’ package from launch. This package reduces weight by 12.65 kg through body components alone, with a reduction of over 25 kg when incorporating lightweight interior elements and carbon rims, and is even more efficient from an aerodynamic point of view (+67% aerodynamic load). It includes the following on the outside:

  • Splitter made of CFRP carbon fibre reinforced polymers (-0.19 kg)
  • Recycled carbon fibre underbody panels (-0.55 kg)
  • Side skirts in CFRP deliver (-0.6 kg)
  • Rear bonnet (-9.2 kg)
  • Panel where the high-load spoiler is integrated (-1.6 kg)

On the inside, you can get the following:

  • Carbon fibre door panels
  • Structural carbon twin-shell sports seats
  • Rear window in lightweight glass saves (-0.85 kg)
  • Fixed side windows are in polycarbonate (-0.45 kg)

The Carbon Pack, which includes a rear diffuser, rear-view mirror caps and carbon side air intake covers, also help to reduce the weight by a further 1.82 kg.

Inside the new Lamborghini Temerario, you’ll find a lot of leather and Corsatex microfiber. Still, you can have pretty much everything you want in carbon fibre, too, including the centre console parts, air vents, door panels, dashboard parts, steering wheel and steering column. We’re glad to see the brand has held on to the classic Start/Stop “Power button” inspired by aviation, e-gear lever, and red ‘line-up’ indicator on the steering wheel.

The same goes for the important driving instruments, which have been kept analogue, unlike the new Porsche 911.

Stil, technology has not been sacrificed. There’s a new 8.4-inch display mounted on the centre console, which houses your Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the driver receives information on the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Finally, there’s a third screen for the passenger, a 9.1-inch unit that allows the co-pilot to view all of the driving information in front of them, including a change in drive mode.

Comfort has been increased, too. Headroom has increased by 34 mm and legroom by 46 mm, while there’s a 4.8° increase in visibility out the front, and drivers over 200cm can finally wear a helmet inside the cabin.
