‘Swimming Poo’ Might Just be the Sh*ittest Game of 2023

A typical 1,000,000-litre swimming pool has about 90 litres of urine, according to a study published in the journal Environmental Science & Technology Letters. As for fecal matter and methane-laden farts, we’d rather not find out. But you can, thanks to a brand new video game called Swimming Poo.

The dad-joke level play on words aside, this bombastic game created by first-time video game producer Nikolaus Games sees you in 1960s commercial America, where you play the role of a boy named Simon who is hell-bent on polluting his local pool. And then there’s his best friend Poopie (voiced by the Honest Trailers voice-over guy from the YouTube channel Screen Junkies), who appears to be the one inciting the pollution.

If dropping a fresh dookie in your local pool sounds like the epitome of entertainment, or you love causing chaos in the face of authority, Swimming Poo might just be the sh*ittest game of 2023.

With a demo soon to arrive on the Steam Playstore in 2023, Swimming Poo is a lighthearted action game that mixes the openness of a sandbox world with the playability of an arcade game. It emphasises running away from opponents, interacting with the outside world, and engaging in distinctive combat. Think of it like Amnesia: The Dark Descent, except instead of running away from monsters, you’re escaping security guards that want to keep the public pool poo-free.

Inside the “fairy-tale aquapark” sandbox are various attractions that players can use to their advantage. You’ll need to “demonstrate agility in competition with enemies by farting and polluting pool zones, destroying their filtering pumps”, which will allow you to upgrade your abilities by recovering secret confectionary recipes that fuel Simon’s pooping abilities.

Beyond the information on the Steam Playstore, we have a teaser trailer that doesn’t show much gameplay beyond the last ten seconds of the video. We get a glimpse at some of the mechanics, like throwing projectiles at other pool guests, farting to propel yourself across the map, collecting items (we assume its candy) midair, and swimming in the many aquapark pools, all while guests scream in terror as you – Simon and Poopie – pollute the pool.

But watch out! It appears enemies can come from all corners of the map. We’re hoping Simon’s best buddy, Poopie, offers players something like Poopie-sense to get us out of trouble. Or you can poop and fart your way out of danger. Either way, players are guaranteed a sh*tty experience with Swimming Poo.
