Oscar Isaac, Andrew Garfield and Mia Goth Rumoured for Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein’ Film
Instead of relishing his recent Oscar triumph, Guillermo del Toro has already moved on to work on his next project. The Academy-award-winning director has confirmed his next film will be a live-action Frankenstein adaptation for streaming service Netflix. Better yet, del Toro has even set his sights on the cast for the movie, which includes some prominent names.

According to Deadline, Andrew Garfield, Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth are “in early talks” to star in the film and Toro has personally met with all three actors. Reportedly, all three stars are ready to hop in and be a part of the project, which doesn’t seem surprising considering del Toro’s pristine track record.
However, no official offers have been handed out to the cast just yet and the movie is far from anywhere near completion. Guillermo del Toro is still busy writing down the script and working out the kinks, which most likely means that the script is in its drafting phase.
Variety notes that the Frankenstein movie “is part of the filmmaker’s multi-year deal with Netflix, where del Toro has a number of projects in various stages of development”. Recently, the Pan’s Labyrinth filmmaker unveiled his Cabinet of Curiosities anthology series for the streamer, which was critically acclaimed.

By all accounts, the latest Frankenstein adaptation has long been a passion project for del Toro, with reports suggesting he has been working on the film for several years. The movie is said to take cues from English author Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel; however, it’s yet to be confirmed how closely it will follow the source material. While talking to Radio 5 Live’s Simon Mayo, the filmmaker revealed how much he adores the classic novel.
He said, “Frankenstein is my lifelong dream, one of the primal books in my life, one of the primal monsters in my own mythology. I’m hoping I get to do that (movie) very, very much.” With del Toro finally inching closer to realizing his goals, we are pretty sure that this upcoming movie will add yet another feather to Toro’s cap.
There’s also no word on who would be playing Doctor Frankenstein or his creation but Deadline reports that Mia Goth is being eyed for starring as the doctor’s love interest. Netflix’s role also remains a mystery, although it’s being reported that the streaming giant will be financing and distributing the movie. More news will certainly be revealed in the coming months, but the prospect of a Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein film has certainly piqued our interest.
