‘I’d Be In’ – Christian Bale Would Return as Batman Under One Condition

Christian Bale will arguably go down as one of the most iconic Batman actors in history. To this day, his portrayal of the Caped Crusader sits in the hearts of fans worldwide, with many praying for a return to the role. Leaving a slither of hope,  Bale was recently asked if he’d ever be open to suiting up again, and the answer was a resounding yes. However, it could only happen under one critical condition.

While on the press tour for Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, Bale was asked about Batman in an interview with Screen Rant. “No one’s ever mentioned it to me. No one’s brought it up,” said Bale when asked if anyone had reached out to reprise the role. “Occasionally, people say to me, ‘Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s news to me. No one’s ever said that.'”

When probed about taking the Batmobile for another spin, Bale admitted he could be convinced if director Christopher Nolan was at the helm. “I had a pact with Chris Nolan,” Bale added. “We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’ In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”

Bale, who finished up as Batman in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises, has rejoined the superhero genre with his role in Thor: Love and Thunder, albeit playing the villain this time. At another event along the press trail, Variety asked him whether he’d watched the recently released version of The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson. Bale confirmed he’d yet to see the film but said it’s definitely on his list.

“I still haven’t seen it,” admitted Bale. “I will see it. Listen mate, I— it’s amazing how few films I see. Every director I work with, I’ve seen a couple of their films, and they’re always looking at me going, ‘Are you kidding?’ I like to really savour films, and I don’t want to watch too many. But I will, I certainly will. Robert is an absolutely wonderful actor. We bumped into each other, talked a little bit about it ahead of time, and I hear wonderful things.”
