Next year, a new entry into the Jurassic World franchise, titled Rebirth, is set to hit cinemas like an asteroid hit… Well, you know where I’m going with this.
We don’t have too much to go off of just yet, but the 7th movie in the franchise’s chronology will launch in July, 2025, and will pick up five years after the end of the previous movie, Dominion, which despite some truly average reviews managed to break $1 billion at the box office.
According to Universal, Rebirth will see an Earth that is only partially habitable to dinosaur-kind, with most living in equatorial regions that resemble the kinds of climates that existed on Earth millions of years ago. Within these tropical biospheres exist three ‘colossal’ creatures, whose genetic material apparently has the potential to bring ‘miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind’.

What We Know About ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ So Far
Rather than being led by Marvel-star Chris Pratt, Rebirth will instead be led by Marvel-star Scarlett Johansson, who will play ‘skilled covert operations expert Zora Bennett, contracted to lead a skilled team on a top secret mission’ to retrieve said genetic material. I’m not going to say that Johansson has been typecast at this point, but we’re definitely getting there.
The plan goes wrong, however, when Bennett’s team finds themselves stranded on an island with a civilian family where they face a ‘sinister’ secret that’s been hidden from the world for decades.
We don’t know that secret just yet, but we do have some more information on who else will be starring in the movie.
All Cast Members Confirmed So Far
While Johansson is playing the lead role in Rebirth, there are quite a few other big names attached: both in front of the camera, and behind the scenes.
- Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett
- Mahershala Ali as her second-in-command Duncan Kincaid
- Johnathan Bailey as palaeontologist Dr. Henry Loomis
- Rupert Friend as big pharma representative Martin Krebs
- Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as a shipwrecked father
- Luna Blaise
- David Iacono
- Audrina Miranda
- Philippine Velge
- Bechir Sylvain
- Ed Skrein
Additionally, the movie will be directed by Rogue One’s Gareth Edwards, and is based on a screenplay by David Koepp, scriptwriter for the original 1993 movie, and executive produced by Stephen Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart and Jim Spencer.
The producers of 2024’s Twisters reboot, Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, are also attached to the product.
How Has Each ‘Jurassic’ Movie Performed?
Some people in our office joked that the release order of the Jurassic Park movies is also how we’d rank them in terms of quality, but that isn’t necessarily the truth. Sure, the original movie is definitely the best, and while Jurassic World launched in 2015 and brought with it the baggage every Hollywood blockbuster reboot does, it’s hard to say the movie did poorly: in fact, it brought the franchise out of amber and gave it new life.
Don’t believe me? Look at how well each movie has been received by audiences critically versus commercially:
Movie | Rotten Tomatoes Score | Global Box Office |
Jurassic Park | 92% | $1 billion |
The Lost World: Jurassic Park | 53% | $618.6 million |
Jurassic Park III | 49% | $368.8 million |
Jurassic World | 71% | $1.67 billion |
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom | 46% | $1.31 billion |
Jurassic World: Dominion | 29% | $1 billion |
‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Release Date
Can Rebirth hit the highs of the previous trilogy-openers? Will it even be part of a new trilogy? We’ll have to wait and see – thankfully, we don’t have to wait long. Jurassic World Rebirth hits cinemas in July, 2025.
