Keanu Reeves looks to be having the time of his life and isn’t looking to stop anytime soon. Hot on the heels of John Wick: Chapter 4’s recent success, the actor has bagged another new project and is set to star in Apple TV+‘s upcoming movie Outcome, a dark comedy with Jonah Hill in the director seat. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple Original Films has acquired Hill’s Outcome and the project will be an Apple Studios production.
In addition to directing, Jonah Hill co-wrote the screenplay with Ezra Woods and will even star alongside Reeves. Although Hill is primarily known for his comedic and witty roles, he has also showcased his creative talents in his feature-length directorial debut, Mid90s.
The upcoming dark comedy will see Reeves starring as Reef, “a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past,” THR reports. Hill will also produce Outcome with Matt Dines, his partner at their Strong Baby banner, along with the company’s Ali Goodwin. Besides Reeves and Hill, no other cast details were shared and it’s currently unclear how far the movie has come along. Unsurprisingly, plot details also remain a mystery and no character details were shared with Reeves being the only exception.
The timing of the deal between Apple and Outcome couldn’t have been more perfect, as Apple has been moving towards more theatrical releases. However, locking in the deal was no easy feat for the Cupertino giant. According to reports, Apple was able to secure the deal after a prolonged bidding war, and it’s possible that they paid top dollar for the project. The movie was initially pitched to studios in November, but it took several months for a deal to finally be reached.
Although no release dates have been shared yet, we don’t anticipate the movie to be out before next year. However, Jonah Hill and Apple have more collaborations in the works. Hill is set to work with Apple Original Films on a Grateful Dead biopic, in partnership with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions. The legendary Scorsese will direct the film, while Hill will star in and produce it alongside Dines and Goodwin under Strong Baby.
