Netflix’s ‘Drive to Survive’-Style NBA Series with LeBron James Confirmed

In the wake of the triumphs of Drive to Survive and Quarterback, Netflix is set for another slam dunk docuseries with the NBA. Renowned basketball reporter Shams Charania has confirmed that the streaming giant is gearing up to launch a documentary series that will shadow the lives of five iconic NBA stars throughout an entire season.

According to Charania’s scoop, the chosen players for the inaugural season include LeBron James from the Los Angeles Lakers, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat, Anthony Edwards from the Minnesota Timberwolves, and oddly Domantas Sabonis of the Sacramento Kings (amateur NBA statisticians have entered the chat..)

The masterminds behind this venture include LeBron James’ SpringHill Company, Barack Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, and Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions, which notably produced the first season of Quarterback, per Yahoo Sports. At this stage, all we know is that filming has already kicked off, but the official title and premiere date are still shrouded in mystery.

The upcoming series is poised to capture a behind-the-scenes look at each player’s journey, both on and off the court. While James, Tatum, and Butler have long been established as basketball royalty, the inclusion of Edwards and Sabonis adds an exciting dynamic, shedding light on their meteoric rise and transformative impact on their respective franchises.

As already mentioned the upcoming NBA series continues the trend set by last year’s NFL-focused counterpart (see below), shedding light on the lives of prominent athletes like Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota. Netflix appears committed to broadening its sports documentary collection, building on the success achieved within F1, Golf, Tennis, and more.

Let’s hope we get another banger to binge on.
