Best New Series on Amazon Prime

The whole reason we come to the streamer in the first place, new Amazon Prime Video series launches are pure gold. This month, we’ve got a whole host of strange new releases, headlined by one major all-out action adventure. Here are the best new series coming to Amazon Prime Video in December 2022.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan: Season 3

Big sexy John Krasinski is returning for season three of the unexpected hit Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. The new instalment of the all-out action smash sees Ryan working as a CIA case officer in Rome, taking in the sights and (presumably) smashing a few pizza pies at the same time. However, his Mediterranean jaunt is cut short when he is tipped off that the Sokol Project, a secret plan to restore the Soviet Empire, is being resurrected more than 50 years after it was thought to have been shut down.

From here, Jack is forced to embark on a mission to confirm the intelligence, but as they have a habit of doing, things quickly go awry. Wrongly implicated in a larger conspiracy, accused of treason, with a Red Notice out for his arrest, Jack is forced to run from his own government in a death-defying chase across Europe. Pew-pew.

Three Pines hinges on a number of mysterious murders, whihc have the town on a knife’s edge, however, Gamache can’t help but find himself oddly drawn to the unusual place. Best New Movies on Amazon Prime Video

While the quality of Amazon Prime Video films is a bit up and down, this month, the streamer has thrown its weight behind a few major releases. Sundance-winning horror flick Nanny makes its way on the streamer this month, while any number of cringe-worthy Christmas films also descend upon us. Here are the best new movies on Amazon Prime this month.

Nanny

It takes a fair horror flick to score nods at Sundance, but that’s exactly what Nanny has done. The psychological horror follows, Aisha (Anna Diop), a woman who recently emigrated from Senegal, who is hired to care for the daughter of an affluent couple (Michelle Monaghan and Morgan Spector). Set to the iconic backdrop of New York City, the series takes a dark turn when Aisha’s tragic backstory is revealed.

Haunted by the absence of the young son she left behind, she hopes her new job will afford her the chance to bring him to the U.S., but becomes increasingly unsettled by the family’s volatile home life. As things start to travel on, a violent presence begins to invade both her dreams and her reality, threatening the American dream she is painstakingly piecing together.

About Fate

Look, not every rom-com is good and this one is borderline, at best. Emma Roberts and Thomas Mann star in this new flick that feels a little problematic. With Christmas in her taillights, Margot (Roberts) is convinced her drop-dead-gorgeous (and narcissist supreme) boyfriend of three months is about to pop the question, but as fate would have it, someone steals her moment. At the same restaurant, at the very same time, Griffin Reed (Mann) is planning to propose to the woman of his dreams, online influencer and local model, Clementine. Of course, the sh*t hits the fan and both plans get absolutely derailed, leaving Margot and Griffin alone, vulnerable and horny (I guess, I don’t know).

Something From Tiffany’s

Another rom-com set in New York City with a Christmas backdrop, Something From Tiffany’s is pretty much exactly what you think it’s going to be. Tow couples, completely different in nature are thrown into a blender of love and emotions right around the holiday period in a situation that is incredibly hard to believe.

Take, Rachel and Gary (Zoey Deutch, Ray Nicholson) a happy enough couple, and smash them with Ethan and Vanessa (Kendrick Smith Sampson, Shay Mitchell), the perfect picture, and you’ve got an awkward love foursome of truly epic proportions. Who will end up with who? We can all probably guess.

Release Date: December 9

Your Christmas or Mine?

I’m not sure what debts Sex Education star Asa Butterfield has to pay off, but surely he could aim a little higher than this. A Christmas themed rom-com that feels like every other Christmas themed rom-com ever made, Your Christmas or Mine? lands on Amazon Prime just in time for the holiday period. Here, we see young couple Hayley and James forced to say goodbye for Christmas at a London train station. Cue the ugly crying faces and train platform runs.

In response, James makes the split-second decision to swap trains and surprise Hayley, the only problem being – she’s done the exact same thing. Instead, Hayley arrives at a vast mansion in a small village in the Gloucester countryside where Christmas is more or less banned, while James finds himself in Macclesfielddripping in Christmas cheer. Of course, a massive snowstorm hits, leaving the star-crossed lovers are trapped at the most manic time of the year. How tragic.

New Documentaries on Amazon Prime

This month, Amazon Prime Video has shied away from the documentary side of things, only releasing two, however, they’re both arguably more interesting than the film and TV titles. Here are the best new documentaries coming to Amazon Prime in December 2022.

Wildcat

No jungle cats in the bathroom, just one tatted-up nature dude and his love of animals. Wildcat follows the “emotional and inspiring” story of a young veteran on his journey into the Amazon, where he meets a young woman running a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre. After witnessing the work first-hand, he suddenly finds new meaning as he is entrusted with the life of an orphaned baby ocelot.

Release Date: December 30

Lee Kernaghan: Boy From The Bush

Country music star, former Australian of the Year and big fan of showing a little too much chest hair, Lee Kernaghan hits the small screen this month with Boy From the Bush. Partly based on Kernaghan’s 2016 autobiography, the part concert film, part road documentary combines the stunning landscapes, remarkable people and amazing stories that have inspired this much-loved Australian Country singer over many years.
