Homelander’s Reign of Terror Escalates in ‘The Boys’ Season 4 Trailer

The first teaser trailer for Prime Video‘s ‘The Boys‘ Season 4 has finally dropped, and the political stage is primed for a superpowered showdown. The upcoming season will pick up right after the events of the recent college-focused spin-off ‘Gen V‘ and will see Antony Starr’s Homelander becoming increasingly unstable and a ticking time bomb of unhinged power.

As per the official synopsis, “In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.”

The teaser trailer for Season 4 of ‘The Boys‘ is everything we were hoping for (and more). It kicks off with a cinematic shot of Homelander sitting on his apartment couch, accompanied by the ominous voice of Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), one of the fresh faces joining the Seven this season. “Rome. Greece. All democracies fail because people are fucking stupid,” Heyward’s Sister Sage tells Homelander. “But if you crush the masses who build your monuments, who tongue your taint… Nah, the people will tear it apart themselves. You just gotta nudge ’em a little. Then you get to swoop in and be the one saving it.”

This leads to Homelander asking, “Like Caesar?” to which she confirms, “Like Caesar.” The trailer lays the groundwork for an intense season, teasing Homelander going off the deep end following the events of Gen V. This season we’ll see Homelander fully embracing the idea of supe supremacy, fueled by a disturbingly growing public support that seems oddly cool about him killing people. We also catch up with Karl Urban’s Butcher conducting his own investigation at an abandoned Vought video store. He stands near a cardboard cutout of Sean Patrick Thomas’ Polarity, a supe introduced in Gen V and the father of Chance Perdomo’s Andre Anderson.

The scene then transitions to a brief shot of Claudia Doumit‘s Victoria Neuman participating in a campaign rally as she runs for Vice President. Additionally, the trailer features Starlight (Erin Moriarty), who has gained her own set of supporters after exposing all of Homelander’s diabolical behaviour on social media last season. Homelander introduces Sister Sage and the firearm-wielding Firecracker (Valorie Curry) as the newest members of The Seven at some sort of event. The trailer even offers glimpses of some of the other supes we’ll be meeting in ‘The Boys‘ Season 4, such as a young girl with creepy-looking creatures projecting out from her mouth and another supe with body-splitting abilities.

Urban’s Butcher health doesn’t seem too great either and he appears to be grappling with health issues. In the trailer, we see a mysterious worm crawling around in his temple, which raises more questions than it answers. Additionally, we get our first look at Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s new character having a chat with Billy Butcher, questioning the origin of The Boys‘ name, asking, “Who came up with that shit?” In classic ‘The Boys‘ fashion, Season 4 doesn’t shy away from blood and gore and the trailer wraps up with Homelander, sporting a wide and bloody grin. Who has he offed this time?

There are still a ton of things we don’t know about ‘The Boys‘ Season 4, including a definitive release date but as per Erin Moriarty, the new teaser is just the tip of the iceberg. “That’s only 0.1% of the intensity you’re going to see this season,” she recently revealed to Geek Vibes Nation.

The Boys‘ Season 4 is set to release on Prime Video in 2024.
