Mike White’s The White Lotus‘ Season 3 is building an impressive cast and has added five new actors into the fray, including Sarah Catherine Hook, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Miloš Biković, and Christian Friedel. They join Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Dom Hetrakul, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Morgana O’Reilly, Lek Patravadi, Shalini Peiris, Parker Posey, season one regular Natasha Rothwell, and Tayme Thapthimthong, bringing the ensemble to a total of 16.
While HBO hasn’t revealed any story or cast details, filming for The White Lotus‘s third season is slated to begin sometime in February in Thailand and will take place in and around Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok. HBO is teaming up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand for shooting and promotion and even though there’s not much to go by plotwise, Season 3 of the anthology TV series is expected to continue the theme of showcasing a new group of guests at a different White Lotus property.

Mike White, the show’s creator, described Season 3 as a “supersized White Lotus” that will be longer, bigger, and crazier. “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” White said last year in November. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing.” Although nothing has been made official yet, Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya, who appeared in both Season 1 and 2, may make a return in some form for The White Lotus Season 3.
Despite being killed off in Season 2, show creator White has discussed the possibility of bringing Tanya back, stating that it would be fun to have her character return, but also acknowledging that her journey may lead to death. In an interview for HBO’s Unpacking White Lotus, White said, “I was thinking, it’d be so fun to bring Tanya back because she’s such a great character, but maybe that’s the journey for her, a journey to death.”
He then went on to add, “Not that I really wanted to kill Tanya because I love her as a character and obviously love Jennifer, but I just felt like, we’re going to Italy, she’s such a diva—a larger-than-life female archetype—it felt like we could devise our own operatic conclusion to Tanya’s life and her story. It just made me laugh to think she would like take out this cabal of killers and, after she successfully does that, she just dies this derpy death, and it just felt like that’s just so Tanya.”
During the same interview, Mike White also teased what could be in store for The White Lotus Season 3 saying, “The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
As of writing, there’s no word on The White Lotus Season 3 release date or plot; however, we can expect the new season to release sometime next year.
