Louis Vuitton’s foray into the world of basketball is gathering pace. The iconic fashion house has just unveiled the latest addition to its ongoing NBA collaboration, premiering its take on the iconic backboard and ball. Stunning it may be, but perhaps not be the kind of thing you bounce around the backyard.

Designed by artistic director Virgil Abloh, the new backboard and ball is included in the ever-growing NBA x Louis Vuitton collection, a new-age take on sports luxury. According to reports, the latest release is inspired by LV’s signature trunks, visible in its gold accents and corner trim. That backboard itself is clear in design and features corner caps with frosted branding elements. The four corners are embellished with metal edging, and engraved logos.
Contrasting the luxury elements are some more traditional basketball aspects. The frosted backboard design also comes complete with bright orange fasteners and that classic orange rim with net. But as all hoopers know, a rim isn’t much good without the rock.

For this iteration of the NBA x Louis Vuitton Collection, LV has also dropped an accompanying basketball, in the ire of the old Spalding design. The LV basketball feature a classic dark leather and black trim design complete with NBA and Louis Vuitton branding. To finish off the pack, Louis Vuitton also offers a bunch of stickers to accessorise the backboard, just like you did in the ’90s.
While there is no official word yet on just how much the new NBA x Louis Vuitton Backboard and Ball will be worth, you can imagine it won’t come cheap. Previous releases in the collection, such as the Basket in Bag backpack went for a whopping AUD$5,650. The NBA x Louis Vuitton Backboard and Ball will be available at select Louis Vuitton locations in the coming weeks.
