Whether you see them as a commodity or a way to express your inner hype beast, sneakers have grown to cult-like status over the last decade. Above all, there’s no arguing that sneakers are collectible (and wearable) works of art. To celebrate, we put together a list of the best sneaker stores in Sydney. And while each store is exceptional in its own right, you’ll have to decide whether or not you’re looking for the latest sneakers at retail prices or some of the rare and exclusive brands at secondary market ‘resell’ prices. Of course, we included both options on our list.

1. Above the Clouds
We’ve been heading to Above the Clouds since they first opened on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst. Today, they occupy a dedicated two-storey retail space on Crown Street as they’ve cemented themselves as one of Sydney’s best sneaker stores. Playing host to regular limited releases (typically at midnight) and a range that’s as flexible as the sneaker sub-culture itself, with brands such as Salmon and New Balance. Expect a huge range of unique kicks alongside some of the best clothing brands to match and passionate staff that’ll help you choose your next pair. One of the most recognised retail stores in Australia, they even have a few collaboration shoes with ASICS, check out their Gel-1090 and Skycourt.

Australia’s number one sneaker and streetwear retailer, Supply Store is the only store in the country to boast a Nike Tier 0 account, Supreme account, and BAPE account (amongst other rare brands). They’re a globally recognised retailer, one of the only places in the world that played host to the Off-White x Nike ‘The Ten’ collection with an in-person activation (with a Virgil Abloh in attendance) and as such, they’re one of the best sneaker stores in Sydney. If you’re looking to pick up some rare sneakers on the release date, Supply Store often plays host to raffles and in-person launches from the latest Off-White x Nike’s to the rarest Air Jordans. If you’re heading to Sydney CBD to hunt some rare sneakers, make your way over to Darlinghurst and check out Supply.

Another favourite sneaker store in Sydney, INCU has a similar range to Above the Clouds, with a focus on the latest sneakers and shoes that go beyond your run-of-the-mill Nike and adidas models. There’s a good chance you’ll see something you’ve never seen before at INCU, with a range of designer labels from Europe that you can’t find anywhere else, think Adieu, Hender Scheme, and Our Legacy. They also stock a range of menswear that makes it a great place to shop for a while outfit. INCU also hosts raffles for limited sneaker releases but offers a great range of off-the-shelf shoes from brands such as Common Projects, Golden Goose, Dr Martens, Mihara Yasuhiro, and a number of other designer labels.

Another OG sneaker store in Sydney, Subtype has been a major player in the scene since it first opened its doors in Palings Lane back in 2014. That store closed after the team moved to Melbourne in 2018, however, they’ve since re-opened in Sydney with a flagship store that makes the shortlist as one of the biggest and best-looking on our list. Just around the corner from their original location, the store has a mixture of rare Nike, adidas, and Jordan sneakers, but they also like to keep things on-trend with a range of Salomons, On’s, and rare New Balance releases. Of course, no pair of sneakers are without an equally strong outfit, and the team have a ‘Subtype Curated‘ label with a range of quality basics. They also host limited sneaker raffles.

5. The Stitch Up
We like to think of The Stitch Up as Sydney’s own version of ‘Round Two’ with Buy, Sell, and Trade options for customers. Have something cool, rare, or vintage? Bring it in, trade it, or sell it for cash. On the flip side, buyers at this sneaker store in Sydney are treated to one of the widest ranges of sneakers, and although most are worn, the selection is hard to beat. If you’re looking for rare Nike TNs, Air Max’s, Dunks or rare Jordans you can’t go past The Stitch Up. They also have a selection of vintage t-shirts and accessories that are perfect to complement your look.

Solemate Sneakers is the OG of sneaker resale stores in Sydney and they’ve recently opened a new flagship store on Bathurst St in the CBD. Established in 2012, they offer one of the widest ranges of rare drops and limited-run sneakers in the city. The facade is reminiscent of a traditional sneaker consignment, but its real strength is the rarity of the products. Their shelves are adorned with some of the rarest sneakers in town, expect all the latest Nike Dunks, Air Jordans, and rare New Balances alongside some fresh Sauconys and Vans.

7. The Back Wall
One of Sydney’s newest sneaker stores also happens to be one of the best. The Back Wall is a family-owned business that specialises in customer service and details, with a range of sneakers that explores more than the basics you’ll find at your local Footlocker. We particularly love their range of Saucony shoes, with classics such as the Shadow 6000 sitting on the shelves alongside cult-like shoes such as the Nike Panda Dunk Low. While they’re a retail store at heart, a few rarer shoes are listed at very fair resale prices. Did we mention they also serve food and snacks? If you’re lucky they might be doing a cake special where your Saucony strawberry cheesecakes actually come with a slice of strawberry cheesecake.

8. Secret Sneaker Store
From humble beginnings in World Square, Secret Sneaker Store has become Sydney’s worst-kept sneaker secret. While you can often find sneakers cheaper through online secondary-market sites such as StockX and GOAT, Secret Sneaker Store puts the rarest sneakers right there in front of you. Expect everything from the discontinued adidas Yeezy sneakers to the rarest Nike Dunk Lows. We’ve successfully sold a few sneakers through SSS through their consignment program and had no issues. We actually ended up getting paid more than StockX was offering at the time.

9. The Real Deal
Just like Secret Sneaker Store, The Real Deal puts the latest sneakers right there in front of you at above-market prices. Of course, those who know what they’re looking for might spot the odd pair priced a little too high (the rule of thumb for in-person resale businesses is market price +20%), but there’s no mistaking the range that’s filled to the brim with sought-after models. Of course, you’ll find all your favourite Jordan 1 Lows here amongst a range of Nike Dunks.

Sitting somewhere between Culture Kings, JD-Sports, and Secret Sneaker Store, Shoegrab is a sneaker resale store in Sydney’s Western Suburbs. Home to some of the most sought-after sneakers in the business, the store has you covered for everything from Nike Dunks to Yeezys and Jordans. We consider this one of the best sneaker stores in Sydney because they serve a particular sub-culture that you won’t find anywhere else. 12. Crep Shop
Crep Shop has cemented itself as the best sneaker store in South West Sydney, but now its sights are set on the greater Sydney region. With everything from the most sought-after Yeezys to the latest Nike Air Max’s, Crep Shop is making waves around the city for its high-profile clientele. More than a sneaker store, the shop is driving the culture forward with in-store meet and greets (reminding us of the OG Culture Kings days) with the likes of Kid Ink, Central Cee, and Knucks Music dropping by to meet fans and pick up some fresh kicks.

13. KAFSH AU
What started as a side hustle in 2020 has grown to become a physical retail store and strong online business selling the rarest and most sought-after sneakers in Sydney. You’ll find everything from rare Nike Dunks to Yeezy Slides and plenty of Jordans, but what we love most about KAFSH AU are the deals and fair pricing that’s often cheaper than the bigger resale stores. While the focus is sneakers, you’ll also find vintage clothing and PRIME online and in-store.

Stylerunner made its intentions clear when it hit the Sydney sneaker scene, they’re here to bring the best women’s sneakers to one place. Think the latest New Balance, Air Jordan lows, and chunky ASICS. If you’re shopping for yourself or a significant other, we can’t recommend Stylerunner enough.

15. Culture Kings Sydney
Culture Kings is Sydney’s streetwear mecca. Boasting a huge range of classics and highly sought-after kicks, just visiting the shopfront is something of an experience. On the shelves, you’ll find over a hundred different streetwear brands that subvert hip-hop, NBA, and hype beast fashion. While there, why don’t you check out the infamous sneaker vending machine or get a fresh cut from their in-house barbers? You’re unlikely to find any super rare sneakers here but rest assured, there’s something for everyone at Sydney’s largest streetwear store.

How Man of Many Chose the Best Sneaker Stores in Sydney
Sydney is home to some of the best sneaker stores in Australia thanks to the variety on offer. And while the list is a little top-heavy, we’ve done our best to pick from the wide variety of stores on offer. Of course, the best Air Jordans are always going to hold historic value as some of the most sought-after pairs at any sneaker store, but our list has more than your run-of-the-mill Nike Air Max’s and TNs. We’ve made sure to include stores that house gorp-core classics from Salomon to minimalist numbers from Common Projects. Selecting entirely from personal experiences, our team of editors have personally dealt with every store on this list and many remain regular customers with the top selections to this day.
