Stray Rats x New Balance 580 is For The Sewer Crew Only
It took a little-known streetwear retailer in Sydney called Perks and Mini to turn our eyes towards the brand, but Stray Rats has become one of our favourite labels with their tongue-in-cheek nature and avoidance of all things plain and simple. None is more obvious than in their latest collaboration with New Balance, releasing October 28, 2022, and combining a contrasting mix of bold colours and neutral tones to the rising New Balance 580. Let’s take a closer look.

This latest release utilises the streetwear label’s subculture and strong use of colour to create a playful take on the New Balance 580. It’s a shoe that’s seen a recent resurgence with streetwear brand Palace, but now takes on a life of its own with Stray Rats, a graphic-heavy USA clothing brand established that was founded back in 2010 by Julian Consuegra, formerly lead creative at FUCT, JR Ewing.
As always, premium construction plays an important role at New Balance, and this 580 utilises an upper construction of pigskin with nubuck overlays accented with synthetic nubuck and reflective details. The look is complete with co-branded inserts and ‘stray’ branding at the lateral forefoot. Outfitted in a mix of bold colours, and oozing Flimby-made quality, we love the high-tech performance that’s reimagined as a nod to the brightly coloured firepower of vintage robot and mech figures.
The Stray Rats x New Balance 580 will release with two colours in Australia on Friday 28th October 2022 at 10am. Check out the link below to pick up a pair for yourself and join the Sewer Crew.
