Czapek & Cie Launches ‘Stairway to Eternity’ Antarctique Passage de Drake

It’s been about two years since Czapek & Cie first introduced their entry into the steel integrated sports watch. When it first came out in 2020, it was met with rave reviews and quickly rose to the top levels of high-end, luxury watches. Czapek is following up that initial offering with a new colour, dubbing the watch the Czapek Antarctique Passage de Drake Glacier Blue.

At first glance, the watch’s dial gives off the appearance of snakeskin, with overlapping scales, but as you come closer, you begin to see the multi-dimensional trapezoid weave pattern reminiscent of carbon fibre. This special look is the result of a unique technique called “flinque,” which is accomplished by stamping the geometric patterns into the dial.

The process is done by Swiss dial maker Metalem, and they refer to the pattern as the “Stairway to Eternity.” For the new Glacier Blue color, the dial is submitted to a PVD coating as well. The indices of the watch are all polished and feature their own facets filled with Super-LumiNova inserts. Czapek offers the option of either a double index or Arabic numeral at 12 o’clock.

You can also get the seconds hand in different colours. The minute and hour hands are done in the sword style. At 6 o’clock you’ll find a colour-matching date window. For the bracelet, you can opt for polished centre links or get a brushed finish to match the rest of the steel bracelet.

“We at Czapek are watch lovers at the service of watch lovers. Our mission is to provide a creative platform for watch collectors to express their personality through our timepieces. At the same time, we are often avant-gardists in trends”, Xavier de Roquemaurel, CEO of Czapek & Cie said. “Both the light blue and the salmon hues were in our pipeline, but before even announcing them we had many bespoke demands for these colours by collectors. It was then obvious that it was the right path to follow!”

Inside the 40.5mm stainless steel case, which has a 10.6mm thickness, is Czapek’s in-house SXH5 calibre movement. The movement is a stunning piece, consisting of seven open-worked bridges, silver and gold gears, sandblasted black plates, purple jewels, and a solid platinum micro-rotor. The watch offers 60 hours of power reserve. Considering how easily the watch entered the upper echelons of luxury timepieces, it should come as no surprise that this watch is priced at USD$22,000 (CHF19,500).
