Jacob & Co’s $350,000 Astronomia Solar Bitcoin is Your Accountant’s Worst Nightmare
High-end watchmaker Jacob & Co. has in no way understated their enthusiasm for Astronomia. Adding to the long list of already existing universal tributes—including the Astronomia Sky, the Astronomia Art, the Astronomia Tourbillon, the Astronomia Casino, and the Astronomia Tourbillon Casino Baguette—Jacob & Co. is now releasing the Astronomia Solar Bitcoin. The watch is billed as a tribute to “the world of cryptocurrencies and to its pioneering and leading example, Bitcoin.”

These large watches feature a lot of technology crammed into a small space under a high-domed crystal. In the case of the Astronomia Solar Bitcoin, which Jacob & Co. describes as “the drawing of the age of Bitcoin,” you’ll find a flying tourbillon with an orange citrine that has 288 facets. Floating around with the other planets, including a black and rose gold earth, is the inspiration for this Astronomia—an extra large rotating bitcoin symbol. There’s also a miniature rocket ship with the Bitcoin logo on it.
Tying into the Bitcoin theme, the baseplate is made to look like a microchip. Surrounding the baseplate is an engraving that reads “peer to peer,” “blockchain,” and “decentralized digital currency.” The case measures 44.55 mm in diameter and 16.90 mm in thickness. It’s made of titanium and features 4 lateral sapphire apertures.

The watch is dressed in black with rose-gold hands and comes on a black alligator with black stitching strap with a black DLC titanium deployment buckle. Impressively, the moving objects are put through their orbit via the JCAM19 calibre movement, which sees the three-armed platform completes one rotation around the dial in 10 minutes, while the manipulate rotates in the opposite direction once every 11 minutes. The movement is hand winding and has 48 hours of reserve.
The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Solar Bitcoin will be limited to just 25 examples, all of which are available through Jacob & Co.. While it seems that Bitcoin may be coming to an end, you can still cash some of that digital currency in to pick up one of these rare and exceptional watches. Just know that you’ll be cashing in quite a bit. The Solar Bitcoin watch is priced at $348,000.
