Swatch and OMEGA officially came together for an innovative (and affordable) collaborative take on the classic Speedmaster Moonwatch when they released the MoonSwatch on March 26th, 2022. The lineup of planet-inspired pieces was originally priced at $380 AUD when released but has since seen a price rise to $435 in Australia. At the same time, demand has softened considerably since the chaotic release, and you can now pick up a MoonSwatch for around $500 AUD on the secondary market. In our experience, most are available in Swatch stores and only the Mission to the Moon, Mission to Mercury, and Neptune are hard to find.
The MoonSwatch is based on the OMEGA Moonwatch, specifically OMEGA Speedmaster ref. CK 2998 which made history when astronaut Walter Schirra wore the watch during the ‘Sigma 7’ mission of the Mercury Programme in 1962. He purchased the watch himself, but just over two years later, it would become certified by NASA for all manned missions cementing its place in history. Since then, the watch has been revered for its astrological history.

Swatch x OMEGA ‘Moonswatch’ Price and Availability
Release date: 26th March, 2022
Where to buy: In-store only at selected Swatch stores
Price: $435 AUD
When released, the Swatch x OMEGA collection broke the internet not only for its entry price ($380 AUD at the time) but its assortment of special coloured dials, contrasting straps, and intricate detailing. Each watch includes a genuine VELCRO strap, with details found on the subdials such as fake ‘diamonds’ (Venus) and even a full illustration of Saturn on the subdial of the ‘Mission to Saturn’ reference.
Each watch includes Swatch and OMEGA branding on the dial alongside the iconic Speedmaster logo and the new MoonSwatch logo. More branding can be found on the strap and a “hidden” S can be found on the crystal glass integrated in the centre.
While the watch is not at the extreme end of precision horlogerie, the Swatch collaboration remains subtle in its application with bioceramic construction, classic sharp and smooth lugs, and even the iconic “dot over 90” detail on the tachymeter scaled bezel remains. All hours, minutes, chronograph seconds hands and hour markers sport Superluminova for a subtle glow in the dark.
“OMEGA’s long and distinguished history may have been cut short if it wasn’t for the vision and the courage taken by Swatch,” said OMEGA President and CEO Mr Raynald Aeschlimann about the MoonSwatch. “The MoonSwatch collection salutes the saviours of our industry in a witty and accessible way. The Swatches are perfect for budding Moonwatch fans and I can’t think of a more appropriate icon for our shared project. We went to the moon, now we’re exploring the whole Milky Way. They’re great watches, in fantastic colours and they make me smile.”

The collection was released in Australia on March 26th, 2022. However, you’re able to walk into most Swatch stores in Australia right now and buy a piece as demand has fallen off. Alternatively, authentic MoonSwatches are available online through secondary market retailers like StockX for around $500 AUD.
