MAD Paris customises watches in a way that you just don’t find anywhere else. Their touch is often subtle, but can be outspoken as well. For their Black and Red Customised Rolex Datejust II, the application of a black matte finish with splashes of red creates a statement that equally fills the description of either being subtle or outspoken. It’s a look that almost couldn’t be further from the original polished Oystersteel and White Gold done by Rolex for this particular timepiece, and not everyone is happy about it.

While it is far removed from the traditional stainless steel finish we’ve come to expect, MAD Paris’ custom Datejust II keeps the same beating heart. It’s built around a 41mm stainless steel case that is done in matte black. The bezel is fixed and engraved, and the lens, which is a scratch resistant sapphire with anti-reflection on it, is flat, offering a better view of the printed logo and indices done in silver. Inside the case is a 3235 calibre movement from Rolex that offers hour, minute, and seconds hands along with the instantaneous date and rapid setting.
The movement is a perpetual, self-winding mechanical movement with a -2/+2 second per day precision. For the band, MAD Paris opted for an adjustable stainless steel oyster strap that matches the case’s matte black colour. The strap uses an Oysterlock safety clasp with Easylink 5mm comfort extension link. The customized watch offers 50m of water resistance and has an IP67 water resistant black Peli Case or a cylindrical leather hard side zip case to store the watch in. A date window at three o’clock has the numbers printed in red.
If you think this watch will be a nice addition to your wardrobe, you might want to make sure to consult your wallet. The Black and Red Customized Rolex Datejust II from Mad Paris is priced at $34,255. Not detoured? Then you may want to move quickly. As of this writing, there was only one left at SSense.
