The unveiling of Patek Philippe’s latest haute horlogerie masterpiece marks Philippe Stern’s 85th birthday, and in this celebratory piece, we have perhaps one of the most intricate and complicated modern pieces of watchmaking from the revered atelier.
The Patek Philippe Minute Repeater Alarm “A Tribute to Philippe Stern” reference 1938P-001 is a minute repeater timepiece with an alarm function from the same hammer and gongs, and thus the same train. This was made possible with the use of a total of 561 components in a novel movement that will, as per Patek Philippe, never be used again. But perhaps the most prominent feature of this piece is the portrait of Philippe Stern emblazoned on the dial of the watch. A true Patek Philippe connoisseur’s piece.

Marking the start of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled two new performance chronographs dedicated to partners Mercedes-AMG and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team. The new additions to the Pilot’s Watch lineup arrive crafted in titanium or Ceratanium, with both pieces featuring a ceramic bezel with a tachymeter scale. According to the brand, this grade 5 titanium alloy case is around 45 per cent lighter than steel, making it an ideal daily wearer.
Design-wise, the new IWC Chronograph 41 watches don’t stray too far from the beaten track, playing off the tried and tested Pilot’s watch aesthetic. Both feature black dials with a glossy finish and black hands, alongside recessed totalisers and the applied indices and numerals, in blackened nickel, filled with Super-LumiNova.Inside, both models are powered by the IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre and are water-resistant to 10 bar.

Hublot has flexed its horological might with the new MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire. Based on the atelier’s concept watch that was to be entered into the Only Watch auction, the Hublot MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire features a transparent flower-shaped case complete with a central tourbillon.
It’s an odd aesthetic that for some reason just works. The clarity of that sapphire paired with the cold look of steel and white metal makes the Hublot MP-15 Takashi Murakami Tourbillon Sapphire a very interesting and at the same time inconspicuous piece of high horology.
Bremont’s New Supermarine Additions
Bremont has a penchant for fantastic watches that are as functional as they are practical. The brand pairs a soft aesthetic with durability, expert craftsmanship and an air for true wearability, with these two new models being absolutely no exception.
The first is the Waterman Apex II, limited to only 350 pieces and boasting a GMT. This piece is a tried and true brute of the sea, worn and tested by the legendary big wave surfer Laird Hamilton. The second is the immensely useful Supermarine S502, with a 500m water resistance and helium escape valve. Proper tool watches.

U-BOAT has made a comeback, with the new Darkmoon Vintage Collection signalling a demonstration of intent from the rebirthed manufacturer. What we have here is a reintroduction of the retro world characterised by strong vintage styling.
Two models have been introduced, both with domed dials, one with numbers, indices, and hands treated with bronze-coloured super-luminova on a black background, and the other with a bronze background with a sunburst finish and numbers, raised indices in black super-luminova, and hands treated with bronze-coloured super-luminova. The captivating look has been further emphasised by the 3D effect used through the integration of oil that envelops the movement underneath the domed sapphire crystal. Very cool stuff.
