- Bremont has unveiled the Supermarine Full Ceramic Deep Blue, a 250-piece limited edition priced at AUD $11,250.
- Former Royal Marine and Bremont ambassador Aldo Kane took the watch into Iceland’s glacial lakes and ice fields for rigorous testing.
- The 43mm blue ceramic dive watch offers 500m water resistance, a titanium inner case and a 56-hour automatic movement.
Bremont has gone full sherpa mode with its latest Supermarine dive watch. Rather than heading straight for the ocean floor, the British watchmaker has taken its new Supermarine Full Ceramic Deep Blue to Iceland, where freezing glacial lakes and towering ice fields make for a fairly challenging change of scenery. Not that Bremont seems particularly worried. The limited blue ceramic timepiece is built for the kind of expedition most of us will only ever watch from the comfort of the couch.
Former Royal Marine and Bremont ambassador Aldo Kane was the man tasked with taking it to its limits. With a name like his and a career clearly spent doing dangerous things for his country and in the noble pursuit of science, he’s no stranger to the Supermarine. He’s already put the Supermarine Full Ceramic platform through its paces on jungle missions (are we sure he’s not a secret government agent?). Iceland, however, presents a wildly different set of conditions: cold-water dives, exposed glacier climbs and trips high into the mountains.
A Ceramic Dive Watch Built for More Than Deep Water
Before we venture deeper into the expedition ahead, let’s take a look at what’s on the wrist. The Supermarine Full Ceramic Deep Blue has a 43mm monobloc blue ceramic case surrounding a titanium inner case, with a unidirectional titanium bezel and matching blue ceramic insert. That ceramic offers impressive scratch resistance without the heft that can weigh down a watch this loaded. That being said, it’s not invincible. Be careful on the ice.
The black dial features a raised wave pattern and applied markers arranged around a naval-inspired crosshair (I actually think he might be a spy). Blue-glowing Super-LumiNova on the hands and hour markers should help when the light disappears, whether you’re below the surface or somewhere less tropical.
1/10Diving in Deep Blue Bremont
As for the diving credentials, they’ll take you down to the depths with 500 metres of water resistance, a helium escape valve, and a screw-down crown. For those unfamiliar with deep-sea diving, when divers spend extended periods working at depth and living inside pressurised chambers, that valve lets trapped helium escape as the pressure drops. Releasing the helium prevents pressure from building up inside the watch and potentially damaging it. It’s all very impressive stuff, and we haven’t even got to the movement it’s meant to protect.
Inside is Bremont’s automatic BB64AH movement, with a 56-hour power reserve, housed in a titanium inner case and concealed behind a titanium caseback engraved with the world’s oceans.
Limited to 250 pieces worldwide, the Deep Blue comes in three strap options: black rubber, a black-and-blue NATO strap, or blue embossed rubber with leather lining. All three will set you back AUD $11,250. Not too shabby, if you ask me.
Will most buyers ever need a watch to dive into glacial lakes or cross Icelandic ice fields? Beyond Mr Kane, I’d hazard a guess: probably not. The closest they’ll get is an ice bar at a millionaire’s birthday party. Still, there’s a particular appeal to wearing something built to handle far more than your average winter Friday night.
