Apple CEO Tim Cook Gets Roasted Online Over Unenthusiastic F1 Checkered Flag Wave

It turns out Formula One Twitter is ruthless. Yesterday, we wrote about the outpouring of fury Brady Pitt caused when he snubbed Martin Brundle on the U.S. Grand Prix grid walk, and now Tim Cook has fallen victim to the trolls. Since Sunday, the Apple CEO has been blasted online for his seeming lack of enthusiasm when waving the chequered flag at the end of the race, resulting in an onslaught of hilarious memes. For all you wisecracks out there making jokes, don’t be surprised if your iPhone suddenly stops working this week.

Cook was spotted at the sporting event alongside colleague Eddy Cue chatting with A-listers Lewis Hamilton and Brad Pitt. As noted yesterday, Apple has secured a documentary about Hamilton and is also producing an F1-inspired film starring Pitt. Set to enjoy a global run in theatres before heading to Apple TV+, the upcoming blockbuster features the team behind Top Gun: Maverick, including writers Ehren Kruger and producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. Seven-time F1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton has also been tapped to help produce the movie.

As the race came to a close, Cook made a surprise appearance on the gantry as Max Verstappen crossed the finish line to take his 13th victory of the season, helping Redbull secure the constructor’s championship already snapped up the driver’s championship in Japan. Viewers at home were puzzled and amused as they were forced to watch Cook very delicately wave the checkered flag at the finish line rather than witness the on-track battle between Sebastian Vettel and Kevin Magnusson for P8. As expected, people went nuts on social media.

The internet is truly undefeated. Check out the best reactions below:
