Dell Dives into the Great Barrier Reef

Spanning 2,300km in length and comprising over 3,000 individual reeds, Australia’s Great Barrier Reef occupies an area the size of Italy and is one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems. It’s no secret that climate change poses a giant threat to the Great Barrier Reef’s future, but given its incredible size, monitoring its health is a huge challenge. To help preserve the natural wonder, Dell Technologies has announced its collaboration with Citizen of the Great Barrier Reef. Using their expertise in technological solutions, the joint venture will allow tourists and the public to assist in the conservation of the Great Barrier Reef by creating an upgraded data collection platform. To learn more about the conservation efforts of Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, head over to their website.

World’s First ‘Kind’ Gaming Tournament Tackles Cyberbullying

Gamers from around Australia will take part in the world’s first positive gaming tournament Kind Royale, where players are rewarded for being kind. In a traditional multi-player gaming environment, the in-game commentary is where cyberbullying is rife, so instead of changing what games people play, Kind Royale targets the way people interact with each other during the game.

Hosted by Australian streamer Nova, people around the world will be able to tune in to watch the Kind Royale tournament. Set in Fortnite, the tournament rewards players for kind gaming commentary and the positive comments their community share while watching the tournament live stream. Viewers will also be able to submit donations via links hosted on gamers’ streams to PROJECT ROCKIT, to support their work with young people across Australia. The game will be streamed on September 1, at 5:00pm AEST, via Nova’s Facebook page.

Aussie Drones are Here to Defeat Deforestation

British engineering and smart tech firm CAL International have teamed up with Australian green tech start-up AirSeed Technologies to embark on a ground-breaking climate change initiative, which will see the aerial platform technology aim to plant 100 million trees by 2024. The ground-breaking project and technology will not only tackle deforestation but also help in the major fightback against global warming.

Commenting on the project, CAL International founder and engineer, Cliff Kirby, said: “The collaboration between CAL and AirSeed will ultimately mean that each drone can deliver two pods per second over a designated area, planting up to 40,000 pods in a day. Through rapid automation and scale of the process, it can cover and penetrate a much wider geographical area.”
