The Toyota RAV4 embodies the age-old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” It’s a philosophy that’s been applied to every model since it was released, and the sixth-generation vehicle, which has just been spotted in camo, looks to continue that legacy with new renders from kolesa.ru showcasing a Camry-like design language.

It was Australia’s top-selling new car in November with 5,526 vehicles sold besting the Ford Ranger (4,981), Toyota Prado (3,590), and Toyota HiLux (3,572). It’s a sales behemoth and is only second to the Tesla Model Y in terms of worldwide popularity hence, Toyota has played it safe with the new generation, which they will likely unveil towards the end of 2025. These spy shots, allegedly taken in North America, show a careful evolution in terms of styling with the latest Toyota ‘hammerhead’ design philosophy applied, currently seen on the new Prius and Camry.

These photos, published across forums like Cochespias show a heavily camouflaged test mule but beneath the disguise, the familiar silhouette can be seen. Just like with the new Camry, Toyota has not gone for a radical overhaul of the RAV4 and most likely it will continue to be based on the TNGA-K platform. Hence, the sharply cut lines and those distinctive wheel-arches would most likely be retained although the front-end would be heavily revised with sharper LED lighting and a larger body-coloured grille.

Like the new Camry and Lexus cars, the new RAV4 will likely have a body-coloured grille with the headlamps blending in them. Compared to the current model, expect the new RAV 4 to also sport larger intakes plus slimmer tail-lamps with a revised bumper design.

Just like the current iteration, a hybrid powertrain will remain central to the line-up although rumours also suggest a battery-electric (BEV) version of the new RAV4 could also be in the pipeline. The 2.5-litre petrol hybrid will likely remain but with a larger electric motor offering better fuel efficiency and more than 163kW of power. The new Camry saw power rise by 10kW to 170kW, and it’s likely the RAV4 will do the same. Do note that the current generation hybrid model has a claimed fuel efficiency of 4.8L/100km, whereas the Camry manages a claimed 4.0L/100km.

Like Australia, the RAV4 in the global market could also end up being hybrid-only with no traditional gasoline engines and the EV version will further push this moniker into electrification.

The inside will likely feature soft-touch plastics on the armrest, upper dashboard, and door trims alongside the larger touchscreens found on the new Camry, meaning the entry-level model will come with an 8.0-inch display, while the mid- and top-spec versions move to a wider 12.3-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (as pictured).

Despite our love for pick-up trucks in Australia, the RAV4 in its current generation could be the first SUV to top the sales charts in 2024 following a strong sales performance this year.

It is quite apparent that Toyota will not mess with a winning formula especially with the new generation RAV4 being more of an evolutionary change that will keep loyal customers happy while enabling it to keep up with competition.
