It seems like a new Chinese car brand announces its arrival in our market every week, but this one certainly caught our attention. With key design elements taken straight from a Defender, LandCruiser, and G-Wagon, Chery Group has confirmed it will expand its local portfolio to five brands (Chery, Omoda Jaecoo, iCAUR, and Lepas) by bringing the extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) iCAUR V25 SUV to the Australian market early next year.

Badged as iCAR in domestic China, Chery (rather hilariously) selected the iCAUR moniker for export markets to avoid trademark conflicts. Built to slot between the smaller V23 crossover and the flagship V27 large SUV, overseas versions rely on a 115 kW (154 HP) 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol generator paired with a 33.68 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, but this hasn’t yet been confirmed for our market.

Kate Gillis, Head of Brand, iCAUR Australia, commented: “Australian motorists have demonstrated a strong appetite for vehicles that combine style, technology and capability. The V25 has been developed to meet those expectations while bringing a distinctive personality that will appeal to customers looking for something different.”

Prospective buyers can check out the V25 in person for the first time at Everything Electric Sydney between 18 and 20 September 2026.

Boxy Styling and Toyota RAV4 Dimensions

It’s pretty clear that the exterior styling of the V25 draws heavy inspiration from classic off-roaders, featuring geometric body lines, an upright windscreen, round headlight clusters, and a squared-off spare wheel carrier.

Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filings list the vehicle as 4,636mm (182.5 inches) long, 1,920mm (75.6 inches) wide, and 1,855mm (73.0 inches) tall, built on a 2,820mm (111.0 inches) wheelbase. These measurements make the unibody V25 36mm (1.4 inches) longer and 65mm (2.6 inches) wider than a Toyota RAV4, while sitting on a 130mm (5.1 inches) longer wheelbase.

The SUV rides on either 19-inch or 21-inch alloy wheel options overseas. While these dimensions and styling elements reflect international market certification models, Australian delivered vehicles are expected to carry over the same core physical package.

Extended-Range EREV Powertrain

Like local offerings from Denza, GWM and other key competitors, overseas versions of the iCAUR V25 utilise an extended-range electric vehicle system rather than a pure battery-electric setup.

Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 115 kW (154 hp) that functions exclusively as a generator to recharge the onboard 33.68 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, leaving electric motors to drive the wheels directly. Under international WLTC testing standards, the V25 delivers an electric-only driving range between 145km (90 miles) and 150km (93 miles), along with an overall fuel consumption rating of 1.52 L/100km.

When fitted with an optional factory towing package, the maximum braked towing capacity is 1,800kg (3,968 lbs), so we wouldn’t expect to tow anything more than a jetski with the little iCAUR.

Australian Commercial Timeline and Sydney Exhibition Reveal

Chery has confirmed that public viewing for the V25 in Australia will take place at the Everything Electric Sydney showcase between 18 and 20 September 2026.

While key details haven’t been confirmed, the display will at least give prospective local buyers their first opportunity to examine the vehicle’s boxy proportions and digital interior layout prior to its market arrival.

Commercial sales and initial customer deliveries are scheduled to commence in early 2027. While overseas market specifications provide a detailed preview of the vehicle’s EREV powertrain and dimensions, final Australian pricing, local feature packaging, and market-specific mechanical configurations will be announced closer to launch.
