2025 is the year of the New Balance 992 and Joe Freshgoods is marking its return with a tasty new collaboration nicknamed the “Aged Well.”
JFG officially previewed the new collaboration on his social media at the start of the month, and now we have official images of the sneaker that’s set to be released in Australia exclusively at New Balance Galeries Store Sydney, New Balance Melbourne Central, and online at newbalance.com.au from 10:00 am on Friday February 28th for AUD$380.
The silhouette brings plenty of orange and pink hits with hints of rust around the sneaker’s technical aspects. It’s another clean colourway that celebrates the brand’s collaborative success spanning five years, 10 projects, and 20 shoes. History that started at the Chicago 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend, according to Chris Davis, Brand President and Chief Marketing Officer at New Balance.
“I first realized the power of Joe during Chicago 2020 All-Star Weekend,” he said. “We always knew he was special and had a unique perspective, but that was a special moment for me. It was probably 2 degrees outside, and we saw all of these kids from all over waiting in line, hungry for the first 992 release, but also the depth of storytelling.”
“It’s all about having the right product story and the right cultural ambassadors at the right moment. So, you have Kawhi Leonard’s signature shoe with Joe Freshgoods at NBA All-Star, where Kawhi won MVP. The way that Joe and Kawhi interacted was so awkwardly natural. It was perfect. A match made in heaven. That’s when I knew this could be a special relationship and it hasn’t failed since then. This latest 992 project is a perfect culmination of just that.”

While it’s tough to find in stores, the New Balance 992 might be the ultimate dad shoe. It oozes a normcore aesthetic with its mesh and suede panels. These are elements that have been adopted by all brands hoping to take a slice of New Balance’s dad shoe pie in recent years, but few can compete with NB on quality. The 992 is still a ‘Made in USA’ shoe to this day, and it’s certainly priced like one.
When discussing the 992 silhouette as a whole, we can’t forget Steve Jobs. He gave the silhouette the official stamp of approval when he wore the shoe on stage during the unveiling of the first iPhone. It was New Balance’s Jordan from the free throw line moment, and there are even rumours that he had a part in the design of the shoe, allegedly sharing a sketch of his “ideal sneaker” with New Balance chairman Mr Jim Davis.
Joe Freshgoods founder, Joe Robinson, says the release of this shoe is a reflective moment that looks back at the last 5 years of success. “When we released the 992 in 2020, it was a scary and anxious moment for me, but fast forward to now, we’ve built something incredible. This relationship has grown in ways I couldn’t have imagined, and this sneaker is like the championship ring you get after a big win,” said Joe Robinson.
