World’s First Foldable MicroLED TV is 144-Inches of Madness

The foldable revolution is well and truly upon us. From Samsung’s folding and flipping smartphones to LG’s new twisting and turning gaming monitors, the future of technology is looking more flexible than ever. Now, the TV game is getting in on the action, with Austrian audio-visual pioneer C SEED unveiling the world’s first foldable MicroLED TV. We’re talking 144-inches of all-folding, all-encompassing action.

Set to be unveiled at CEDIA Expo 2021, the new C SEED HLR TV takes the brand’s out-of-the-box approach to entertainment to a whole new level. When not in use, the new TV is hidden in plain sight, recessed within the specially-designed compartment box. However, when the TV is activated via a simple button push on the remote control, the real show begins, in more ways than one.

The fully automated opening process sees the 144-inch TV screen emerge from the compartment box, rising to a height of 2.5 metres. Over 60 seconds, five massive MicroLED panels unfold to form the full viewing area, connecting seamlessly together. Better still, the foldable TV isn’t static. C SEED has confirmed that the display can be rotated 90 degrees left and right or 180 degrees in one direction. When you’re done, the button push sees the five display screen submerge back into the compartment, saving safe and storage.

As far as the technology goes, foldables still have a way to go and for many, the automated unfurling still feels like a marketing gimmick, but the spec sheet for C SEED’s latest release paints a different picture. According to the brand, the new HLR TV processes image data up to 100,000 times per send, enabling the screen to display 64 billion colours. Additionally, the screen also cops a luminosity of 4,000 nits and a high refresh rate, which could prove to be a win for gamers.

While the official release is still a while away, C SEED’s new HLR TV lineup does mark an important milestone in the foldable TV evolution. Other prototypes have been revealed in the past, but few have actually made their way into production. Sure, no one really needs a folding MicroLED TV, but nobody really needs a 144-inch monster screen in their house either. Doesn’t stop us from wanting one, though.
