  • OMEGA has announced two new references and four configurations to its Railmaster collection.
  • The first reference features a beige dial with a small seconds sub-dial and ‘vintage’ lume, while the second has a grey dial and white lume with centre seconds.
  • Both references measure in at 38mm in diameter and are available on either a leather strap or stainless steel bracelet.
  • Pricing for the beige dial starts at AUD$9,475, with the grey dial starting from AUD$8,525.

If you have been following the OMEGA story closely over the past few years, you may have noticed a sweeping patronage for Seamasters and Constellations. The Swiss luxury watchmaker’s emphasis on those two product lines has been undeniable, and while other releases, such as the Speedmaster Pilot and Paris 2024 Bronze Gold Edition, have made headlines, it’s clear where OMEGA’s priorities lie. At least, that’s what we thought.

The maison has this week unveiled a new generation of Railmaster models, revitalising what has long been the often overlooked member of the brand’s remarkable 1957 Professional Trilogy. This time around, OMEGA has dropped the vertically brushed dials and 40mm case size that we saw on the 2017 revamp, instead opting for a suite of sophisticated gradient dials and a much more ergonomic 38mm diameter. Vintage-inspired and laden with the unique science-heavy DNA that made the original Railmasters a hit, the 2025 watches have every chance of changing the narrative.

First released in 1957, the original Railmaster was designed with practicality in mind. Unveiled alongside the very first Speedmaster, which was marketed towards racing car drivers, and the Seamaster 300 for ocean divers, the Railmaster landed in an interesting position, catering more to the blue-collar railway worker. The timepiece’s inner protective case provided impressive anti-magnetic properties for the time, with the watch able to resist magnetic fields of up to 1,000 gauss. That property alone made it a favourite amongst engineers, industrialists and scientists who worked around rail lines, but over the decades, the Railmaster failed to replicate the same mass popularity as its siblings.

After fading into relative obscurity, the collection popped up in 2003 as part of the Aqua Terra family and then again in 2017 to mark the Professional Trilogy’s 60th anniversary celebrations, but new models have been few and far between since then. Finally, OMEGA is giving the Railmaster its due.

The 2025 OMEGA Seamaster Railmaster collection comprises two new references that each borrow design cues from the existing Seamaster Aqua Terra range. Specifically, the cases and linked bracelets share the same aesthetic style, which OMEGA says helps create a thread of continuity between the families. Most importantly, however, the watchmaker hasn’t simply revived a heritage piece in hopes of leveraging nostalgia. In reality, the new models represent a full-scale revitalisation, complete with ergonomic design upgrades that look downright delightful.

First and foremost, the 2025 Railmasters have been slimmed down to a manageable 38mm in diameter, in keeping with recent consumer trends, while the colour palettes have been revised for clarity. The grey dial model, which also features a stunning black gradient, has a distinctly minimalist design reminiscent of the original 1957 model. You won’t find any wording on the dial, save for the OMEGA logo and Railmaster name, with the large indexes and numerals transferred in white Super-LumiNova. As you would expect, this model is available on a black leather strap, however, it also comes on a new stainless steel bracelet that OMEGA claims has been redesigned with revised links, improved integration, and easy comfort adjustment.

On the more vintage-inspired end of the spectrum, the beige dial model looks like a true nod to the past. Pulling references from the 2004 Railmaster, this model includes a Small Seconds function, alongside vintage Super-LumiNova on the indexes and numerals. Again, this model is available on a golden brown Novonappa leather strap or the redesigned stainless steel bracelet.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Railmaster without some acknowledgment of the timepiece’s anti-magnetic properties. For the 2025 editions, OMEGA has fitted the watches with the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 (and Small Seconds 8804), which the brand claims is among its “most advanced mechanics”. Described as 15 times more resistant than the original Railmaster models, the OMEGA Seamaster Railmaster collection is certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS) and can withstand magnetism up to 15,000 gauss.

Priced from AUD$8,525 for the grey dial model on black leather strap and AUD$9,475 for the beige dial on golden brown Novonappa leather strap, the new Railmaster collections are available in boutiques and online now. If you ask me, the revitalisation is exactly what the doctor ordered. With OMEGA switching tact and reiving a piece of watchmaking history, the Railmaster collection is finally firming as a fan favourite. Let’s just hope they stick around.
